Reviewed November 6, 2012

Stayed here for two nights in November 2012. The service started already a day before I checked in: I arrived in hopes of securing a room without reservation (don't try this - Mawlamyine may not be on the main tourist trail but the few hotels book out every day). Of course there was no room available. But rather than simply saying sorry and letting me fend for myself, the receptionist immediately started calling all hotels and guest houses one by one, until she found a room somewhere else (lucky - I might have had to go back to Yangon otherwise).

The next day I had booked for two nights and received all the excellent service others have already writtten about: there's various useful items in the room, the TV has several international and Thai channels, etc. Staff are really friendly and helpful in all possible ways, and the room is very complete.

The room has the biggest minibar I've seen in Myanmar (and most other places), and they have Singha beer (and many other items of Thai origin, probably because they are close to the Thai border), which was a nice change.

Wifi is available and signal strength to the access point is excellent (five out of five bars), however there is (or at least for the three days I was there there was) no Internet access in Mawlamyine. This is apparently city-wide, going to an internet cafe makes no difference (kids in there may be playing games, but these games are on the local LAN, not online). So until this situation improves in the city, don't count on being able to use the internet in Mawlamyine. As an example: you can load the Google home page in 1 - 2 minutes, if the page loads at all. Beyond that, nothing much happens, a search query may eventually load after several minutes but clicking on any of the search results will then lead to a website that will not manage to load (may sometimes load partially). This was at all times of the day not just at night as is sometimes the case in Yangon.

When I needed to go back to Yangon at the end of my stay they booked the bus ticket for me, and when I had trouble finding a hotel at the last minute in Yangoin guess what: they once again worked the phones until they secured a reservation for me - truly incredible service. In the end this reservation did not work out (I arrived in the evening, and because you can't pay for reservations hotels are often reluctant to hold onto them for fear of no-shows), but that was not their fault (the taxi driver I toook from the bus station eventually got me into a Chinese hotel that's not on Tripadvisor, and therefore had a decent room available at 9pm).

The breakfast is very good for Myanmar standards (best I had in Myanmar), and the restaurant overall has an extensive menu and good food choices (mostly Myanmar/Chinese cuisine). I had dinner there two nights in a row.

I unreservedly recommend this hotel with its extremely dedicated and service-minded staff; it was a great experience staying here.

Room Tip: Had room 207 which was good and has balcony, however can'tt compare with others as this was the...

Stayed here for 4 nights in $25 room. Service good, room clean plus complimentary coffee, water and biscuit. Choice of breakfast good. Staff friendly. Wifi excellent worked 100%. Could not fault the hotel for the price I paid for the room.

Excellent service, professional staff & attention to detail is a few ways to describe this hotel. We paid US$35 for our room, which turned out to be a suite-like space. Facilities provided-satellite TV, fully stocked fridge, ironing board, complimentary toiletries & snacks, endless bottles of water & an iPad to surf with free wifi service. First time for me :) Rooms very clean & we had a balcony to enjoy the views of the temples on the ridge.

Decent breakfast & dinner at restaurant, again very attentive service. The town lacked traveller type places to eat (at time of visit), so the hotel restaurant maybe a good choice-affordable & not overpriced.

Mawlamyine is not so well visited, but has some of the most amazing temples we've seen (with spectacular views) & lots of colonial houses & buildings.

Room Tip: The 'suite' was US$35 and has all the amenities mentioned in the above review.

Stayed here 3 nights after 3 weeks in Myanmar. Fabulous hotel; welcome juice and fruit
(every day) - and even a laptop in the $35 room - which I am using for this review! The entire hotel is so clean and tidy, lots of Burmese artifacts on the walls and up the staircases for you to peruse. Staff are amazingly friendly (they open a lot of doors for you), breakfast is large and the internet is the fastest we have come across in Burma at 500kbps download. Minibar in room is also very good value, with at least 3 movie channels to watch whilst eating your chilli peanuts and drinking cold Myanmar beer. You can hire a 100cc motorbike from Breeze hotel for 10,000 Kyat a day (to war cemetery and Setse beach) and there is a day ferry to Bilu Kyun at 08.30am with return ferry at 3.30pm. Unfortunately it doesn't seem that the ferry from Mawlamyine to Hpa'an runs any more, whatever the season.

Room Tip: As per a previous reviewer, top floor (which is the 2nd floor) for a double room with balcony.

Cinderella Hotel is well located, a few distance from the main tempoles, from the market and from the seaside. The staff is helpfull and the service is professional. The rooms are quite large. They lack in personality, but are clean and confortable. Breakfast is well prepared and tasty, and you can chose among five main courses. Their restaurant is good also for dinner (we suggest the enormous dish of Malaysian noodles!). Certeinly, they can't provide for sunshine in the monsoon season, but we could excuse them... So, we suggest this hotel!

Cinderella is the lonely planet top pick, with good reason. We decided to splash out here after roughing it a bit elsewhere in the country - it was so nice to be in a clean, quiet, air conditioned room. Everything else was just pure novelty - free tea and coffee making facilities, free bottles of water, free snacks etc etc. Brilliant.

This Hotel was one of the best that I have ever stayed in. 5 star places are great but usually lack character. $25 dollar hotels don't usually make the extra effort to be at this level. Well manicured grounds with little animal bushes, super friendly staff that are very helpful, excellent resturant, nice room with satelite tv and full size mini bar. The prices for mini bar, resturant and laundry were very low so you didn't have to think about going out. Wifi worked well (for Myanmar) and they have their own generator so you have 24hr electricity.

Above and beyound that is the great local art that the owner has collected and displayed with signage. Lots of carvings, puppets and sculptures.
Beds are a little hard but not bad.

If you pass through this part of the country, it is worth it to plan a night here.

Room Tip: Maybe away from the generator and/or the side facng the street woul be a bit quieter.
