Owner description: The USS Liberty Wreck is the most famous dive site in Bali. It is also one of the best sunken ship wrecks in the world! If you come to Bali, you absolutely have to dive there The liberty ship was hit by a Japanese torpedo then was beached near Tulamben. In 1963, the eruption of Mount Agung caused the vessel to slip off the beach, and it now lies on a sand slope in 9 to 30 m of water. The wreck is about 130 m long with the shallowest part at about 5 m deep and the deepest on the other side of the wreck at about 30 m deep.

“Great dive in every way”
Reviewed August 24, 2013

Easy access, brilliant vis, loads to see. We did 6 dives (1 in Coral Garden) and saw something new and unusual on every dive from a group of 4 bump head parrot fish on the first to the pair of ornate ghost pipe fish on the last. Plenty to keep you busy for a couple of days but maybe not a lot longer. Would be a perfect compliment to some dives in Nusa Penida and PJ!

“Lots to see, but be careful of fire coral!”
Reviewed August 12, 2013

The best thing about the dive site is.. it's a shore dive. don't need to take a boat out. Just walk from your dive resort, put on your gear and go.

Lots to see - from the macro to the micro - I saw huge red garoupas, a group of really big bumphead parrotfishes, tiny orange pygmy seahorse, a variety of nudi branches, pufferfish, batfish, colourful parrotfishes, tiny shrimps, etc..

Viz is quite good.. between 10-20 m. The water is greenish blue.

If your buoyancy is not very good - get help in entering the smaller spaces in the wreck - there's a few 'holes' you can go through. careful not to rub against the fire coral - I did while entering a space... (and I was wearing a shortie wetsuit).. now I have a line of swollen and very itchy bumps on my thigh.

the downside is... to get into the water, you'll have to walk on lots of stones and battle the waves (which can be quite strong). If you're not steady, get help from your buddy or dive guide. there's also a bit of current here.
