“wreck divers paradise”
Reviewed July 10, 2012

My partner and I went to Tulamben to dive the USAT Liberty, and do our wreck course, We had the enjoyment of staying in one of the ocean view villa's, Ocean View was a fantastic place to stay, Great, service by the staff, beautiful gardens , and well kept . The villa its self was great Huge bathroom and big corner bath, Plenty of room to move around. We had the pleasure of meeting Made, who runs the dive shop and took us through our wreck course, very proffesional and a great teacher, Once we completed the wreck course we had the thrill of diving the wreck without a guide, a wonderfull experience!!!!!!!
On leaving the resort and back in Bali I realised I had left a dive top behind, After emailing this info to Sita , She Kindly arranged to post this back to me in Austalia, which I received a few days after arriving home , A BIG THANKYOU !!!
The only thing a can fault is the food in the resturant, and the lack of clean taIble clothes, If you order a beef burger it would be nice to get a real burger not sliced meat????
If the food could be improved it would be a good advantage
I would stay here again and again well done To Sita & Made and his staff in the dive Shop

Room Tip: Ocean view villa a must

I stayed there 4 nights with husband and my 2 years old son last week. We all love it! The place is new. They have kiddy pool and huge baththub (which we also used for soaking our divesuit).

You can arrange your dive anytime you want, the dive guide will prepare all your gears for you. All you need to do is jump in to the sea, which only take like 3 minutes after you leave your room... And when you're done, the guide will take care all the gears again, and you can just walk shortly to your room. Heaven!

Our dive guide was Komang. He's very nimble at the surface, but relax in the water. He made us meet pygmi seahorse.

They also have satelite TV but there's no chanel for kids, unfortunately. The only thing we regret is the meal, we're Moslem, and it's a little difficult for us to get a 100% halal food. I wish they woud do something for this.

But if we want to go back to Tulamben, we certainly will stay at this hotel again, but we might would bring our own meals. :)

My wife and I are professional scuba instructors and we wanted nothing more than to dive one of the Top 10 wrecks in the world. We wanted to stay in a great location close to the USAT Liberty. We couldn't have asked for more. Ocean View Resort was everything we were looking for! The room was HUGE! The view was amazing -- east facing and on just 10 meters from the ocean (Bungalow #1), quiet and separated from the other rooms. 10 meters for the pool and dive shop, from where we rented tanks for $10 each. We set up our gear at the room and walked right into the water and swam right to the wreck. Amazing! We did 5 dives, one of which was a night dive -- too easy and absolutely gorgeous -- so full of life. The hotel staff was good, not excellent, the dive shop manager was excellent however. The restaurant was the one downside. We had lunch there, once and that was enough. (We did eat the breakfast there only because it was included in the room price.) There are so many other better places to eat in town and I totally recommend doing so. The best place that we ate in Tulamben was right next door at Toyabali Beach Bungalows -- you must eat here, the view is amazing too! I do totally recommend Ocean View Resort to any diver who wants to have an amazing time on the Liberty wreck. We went to Ubud after three nights here and wished we stayed an other two instead. We would definitely go back to Tulamben and stay with Ocean View Resot again!

Room Tip: Bungalow #1 -- for sure!

Arriving in Tulamben we looked at a few places and chose this one because of its location (near to the Liberty wreck), the newness of the resort (it is one year old), and the fact that it is a very small property (only 9 small villas). We stayed in villa #1 which is the closest to the ocean and more private than the others. Each villa is equally nice and have great views.

The bathroom is enormous and features a large tub and a separate shower The villa is large with comfortable bedding, a flat screen T.V., air conditioning and a fan. There is a nice sitting area in front with two comfortable chairs and a lounger. The hot water was hot and plentiful.

The place was nearly deserted when we stayed which allowed us to have almost exclusive use of the pool and the loungers. There is a modern PADI dive shop on site with good equipment and knowledgeable staff.

When we arrived we were served a welcome drink which was a nice touch. It looked like fresh orange juice, but was in fact an orange flavoured drink. Breakfast was included. The Bali coffee was lukewarm at best and the omlete was the smallest I have ever seen. The choice of juices was fresh pineapple or orange. While we were assured that the orange juice was in fact fresh, we both asked for pineapple. It was fresh, but once again a very small portion. Lunch was okay, but the dinner service and food was not good. While the staff try very hard, their lack of functional English limits their ability to communicate. As for drinks, avoid the wine; order beer or the fruit lassie (fruit juice mixed with yoghurt, kind of like a smoothie).

We would stay here again because of the location, but would eat elsewhere.

Room Tip: All villas are nicely located and have good views, but villa number 1 is the best.

We looked at a few places and chose this for value and cleanliness. Breakfast was not good, lunch was ok BUT don't have dinner here if with others as you will not eat together! Great view and good size pool - generally we liked it. Massages were good, dive staff very knowledgeable and friendly and manager very helpful

We stayed 4 nights at this beautiful new (just over a year old) resort and really enjoyed it. The location is fantastic, but don't expect much of a beach. The staff have obviously been trained to serve you well, but it comes in handy if you speak a little bit 'bahasa Indonesia'.
The bungalows are spacious and clean, only the airco needs seeing to as we could not adjust the fan, which was blowing too hard straight towards the bed. Then it becomes a little difficult to make the technician understand what the problem is.
We were to lazy to go out for food and drinks and only used the hotel restaurant, or had drinks served at our own bungalows' terrace. All much to our satisfaction.
The dive base is located on the grounds, and I would definately recommend it. The equipment is well looked after. Instructors and dive guides are most friendly and helpfull. You get your personal guide and arrange with him at what time and where you want to go diving. Very relaxed, this way you can avoid rush hour at the Liberty wreck, which lies almost in front of the resort.
We have just returned from our Bali tour, and are already planning next year's trip, which will certainly include a stay at Ocean View Dive Resort Tulamben.

Room Tip: All rooms (bungalows) are good we stayed in the bungalow nearest the sea. Check the airco, the fan...

Its a beautiful setting and lovely rooms, with staff that really try hard. The dive operation is good, and at your doorstep, literally.
But the breakfast is very poor, and the service staff and chefs could do much much better. Do not hesitate to stay here, but definitely eat elsewhere like Lesehan Segara Tegeh. I suppose you might have to put up with the breakfast, but don't let that put you off. Also half decent post-dive drinks can be found at Tauch Tulamben a few doors down along the best.

Enjoy!
