“Good Value for Lodging, Service Not So Great”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 9, 2013

The rooms are sparse but good enough and the grounds are well appointed. There are two pools that are well maintained. A shore dive is $30 US a tank and you have to go with a dive master. It does get cheaper the more dives you buy, but I felt that was pricey for what it was. I did not dive with them but have dived the Liberty in the past- in my opinion, not world class. I would shop around for tank prices in Tulamben if I was to dive it again. The food is OK and reasonably priced.

The people at the front desk were rather terse and not very helpful, so if you have any issues or questions, you're kind of on your own- or just walk down to the water to another hotel and ask them.

The wifi was too weak to load a page or send/receive emails while we were there.

Thanks for you review Eors, whilst you found our dive prices expensive, you were certainly under no obligation to dive with us? We always explain clearly the prices before anyone dives with us. There are definately cheaper dive operations, we do not claim to be the cheapest in Tulamben. We also would not let you dive alone, as you requested, as you were only Open Water qualification. We do not allow Open Water certified divers to dive alone. This is why we supply you with an experienced trained dive guide who knows the dive sites very well, we have clean safe air and Nitrox is supplied for free (if you are certified). Our equipment is well maintained, we have oxygen and first aid facilities available, an instructor is on-hand if you wish to add another speciality while you are staying with us. Our dive guides are also trained to accompany underwater photographers and we get rave reviews from our customers who visit Tulamben for underwater photography. All of these things need to be taken into consideration when comparing prices between dive facilities, as we feel that we offer our guests good value for their money.

I stayed at this resort for two nights to go diving at some of Bali's finest dive spots - and was not disappointed! The diving is truly magical, especially for a beginner like me. Warm water, easy access straight from the beach (though because the beach is not sandy, but rocky, it can be a bit tricky to navigate the surf with the heavy diving equipment - but your guide will help you), and a wonderful diversity of marine life! I had a very nice dive guide who was knowledgeable and patient. Though if you are a beginner and maybe still slightly nervous about diving, just make sure you ask for a guide who speaks English well. Not all of them do (understandably!), and communication barriers when you're an anxious diver can be a bit stressful. My favourite dive was the 'drop-off', though diving the Liberty wreck is also a great experience. Because the hotel is so close to the wreck, you can dive it early in the morning before the masses get there - which is good (it gets very busy apparently).
The dive facilities at the resort seem to me to be a well-oiled machine, and everything was taken care of, for a very reasonable price. The room we stayed in overlooked one of their two pools, and was comfortable. But if you don't want to be woken up early in the morning by the divers getting their equipment ready, ask for a room away from the front entrance - it can get a bit noisy.
Lastly, their restaurant served delicious food! We stuck to the local delicacies, like the grilled fish in banana leaves, and the fish curry. Wonderful flavours and very well prepared.
Overall, we had a great time at the resort, and the staff were very helpful and friendly.

I stayed here for 2 days. Room was clean, water hot, and AC worked well. It's a great deal for the price. I thought the restaurant was really good and very reasonably priced. Dive guides were excellent and very flexible with dive sites and times you want to go. It was one on one which was phenomenal for the price. The macro in particular was great, I saw completely different stuff then my previous trips to Lembeh, Wakatobi, and Bunaken. I would definitely stay here again and plan to someday. They also were great about arranging transportation. One thing to keep in mind is it's not right on the water if that is important to you, but there is no real beach anyway, it's rocky. Getting in and out is a bit challenging but not horrible. If the surf was up though it would be quite difficult. Wall diving was pretty good, but the macro is why I would come again. The wreck was good as well.

As this was our second stay at the LDR we new it would be great.Once again the staff were great and always willing to help, even though there are other restaurants in the village there is no need to leave the LDR. The rooms are clean the water is always hot. Once again the diving was amazing made even easier with the assistance of my guide Made who took me to three new sights. The weather was even clearer this time and the magnificent views of Mt Agung added to all the other delights of our stay I am sure we will be back again even if you don't dive what a great place for a quiet relaxing break from the hustle and bustle of Kuta.

A warm generous, friendly, happy sort of people. Liberty Dive Resort in Tulamben is so lovely, quiet location, 2 minute walk to the sea, nice food, fabulous family cottage at very reasonable rates, clean pool, and the massages are to die for extremely cheap, i've only been here 4 days and have had 2 already, more to come :) The best part is the dive guides, so talented, and helpful, some of the easiest diving i've ever done, and i've done some. The beach isn't easy because it's pebbly, so the guide will carry your kit, take you into the surf, help you but the gear on in the water, then you go, SIMPLE! My husband is into serious photography including macro, his guide is Wayan Jhon, excellent at spotting subjects he would never have found, me and my daughter like pleasure diving and Tisnu, has a special place in our hearts.Well done Bali. We will be back.

Room Tip: The family cottage is superb and very reasonable.

Small town with generous people, great seeside and ofcourse best dive resort for divers and also no-divers. There are also very nice views. On one side there is oceanview, with very very black sand and wonderlful sunrise, where you can see Rinjani (Lombock) On the other side there is a magnificent vulcano M. Agung..
When you live Tulamben and Liberty dive resort you will just say: I`ll be back!!!!!!!!

Our group of 6 divers stayed here for 4 nites in early August. This is our 2nd stay at LDR in 3 years.
This time, we stayed in the new standard rooms which were large, clean and brightly lit. It has a big table where we could lay out our camera equipment. The hot shower works perfectly. Besides new aircon units there are ceiling fans in the room and porch area.
The diving was great. Our guides Wayan, Suar and Tisnu were all very enthusiastic and hard working ... starting the daily dive routine at 6am at our requests and searching for the special things we like to see. You decide where and when to dive, and pay only for the dives that you make. After every dive, you are offered hot drinks and watermelons !
The expanded resort is very spacious with nice, lush landscaping and very relaxing. The pool is cleaned daily. Wifi signal is strong and available throughout the resort
I booked by emailing Wayan the owner directly who is very prompt in his response.
The only dislike was the rather soft bed in my room which did not provide enuf support.
Overall, it was the best resort during our Bali holiday and we will be back.
