“Fantastic property and overall experience!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 28, 2009

I decided to check out the Anatanra Seminyak after a good friend told me about her fantastic experience at their property in the Golden Triangle. The photos on the website looked terrific but in reality didn't do the property enough justice. My husband and I spent the last four nights of our honeymoon there and we couldn't have had a better time. The experience was absolutely fantastic from the initial email to the reservations department who upgraded our room and let everyone at the hotel know it was our honeymoon. When we were brought up to our room they had scattered rose petals on the bed and in the tub and left an adorable plate of honeymoon cakes. The food at all of the restaurants was fantastic, including the delicious breakfast (and espresso drinks) which were included in our rate. My husband is an avid surfer and was able to catch some great waves right out in front of the hotel while I lounged at the beautiful pool with my book. The staff was extremely attentive without being intrusive and was very helpful with all of our requests. Our room was an ocean front suite which was beautifully appointed, very spacious and included a jacuzzi on the lanai overlooking the Indian Ocean and ahhhh-mazing sunset. I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone heading to Bali who is looking for an upscale experience. It is definitely worth every penny!!!

We have just returned from 13 nights and it is possibly the best hotel we have ever stayed at, the staff were wonderful especially doddi and Dylan, the breakfast we had every day were unbelivable cooked to your liking and the presentation superb. I don't know why the review I read about the pillows not to someone's liking, that's rubbish it was the best bed and pillows I have ever slept on. Loved the girls that served us at breakfast time they were gorgeous Pera and Wiwik and all the others they made our stay wonderful also the lovely security guys out front, and not forgetting Diego he was great. We will be recommending this hotel to all our friends keep up the great work guys.

Exotic Beach Front location & Sexy architecture does not make a resort 5 star by just charging guests 5 star rates. Its the service that sets any resort apart from the rest. The Food & Beverage at Anantara is way below average starting with a seriously flawed breakfast menu. Even the most basic of eggs were not prepared to my expectations and my english breakfast tea was unpleasantly weak. I have to say they provide guests with the most sub-standard set of pillows which are made of cheap compressed foam. I asked for down pillows and i was given some cheap feathered alternatives. Thumbs down! For the money spent, i would have returned to The LEGIAN

Dear Anantara Guest,

Greetings from Seminyak, Bali and thank you for staying with us recently. The team and I are very pleased to receive your valuable comments and we would like to thank you for your efforts into posting such constructive review, your perspective is very important to us and we have taken on board all your remarks.

First of all and on behalf of the management team, I would like to personally apologize for not making your stay at Anantara a memorable experience however, it is with pride that we have taken on board your positive comments regarding our exotic beach front location as well as sexy architecture, and we will pass them on to our associates.

On the other hand, it is with deep regret that we have acknowledged your disappointment concerning our flawed breakfast experience and our sub-standard set of pillows. To be honest, both my team members and myself are very surprised by your comments regarding our breakfast menu as we are usually complimented in this area and the long variety of “a la carte” items in our menu as well as the fresh selection of our buffet, is excellently regarded by all of our customers (in-house and usual visitors from the community of Bali) nevertheless, we thank you for bringing this fact to our attention for further consideration and follow up.

With regards to the pillows in our suites, I have to admit that we are even more surprised with such statement as we are very confident with the quality of our micro-fiber pillows, of which the cover is made of 100% cotton (200TC) and the fill is made of 100% micro-fiber (“down felt”); actually, this guest supply is our best seller item in the Anantara shop (we had to put this item up for sale after much guests’ demand) and many of our international customers buy one to bring back home by confirming that our bed linen is of very high quality standards. For your information, all other pillows offered in the suite (an extensive variety of 5 different types through our “in-suite pillow menu”) are also of top quality and we praise ourselves for providing only the best supplies to fit our already well regarded luxurious suites.

Thank you once again for sharing your point of view with our readers, I am personally sorry we were not able to please you entirely and my team and I will continue working hard in our efforts to please every Anantara customer.

We look forward to continue bringing more and more guests to Bali, the Island of Gods!

With kind regards,

We have just returned from a fantastic 10 night stay at the Anantara. The staff at this resort truly make it very special and they can't do enough for you. Erna in particular made our stay such a pleasure and was so helpful with any questions we had and took care of dinner reservations or day trips that we wanted to do.

The rooms here are exactly like the pictures on the website- stunning and huge! We had an ocean front room and after being placed initially in a lower floored room, we asked to be moved to a higher floor and they were able to do so two nights later. The roar from the ocean can be heard when the door is shut, which can be quite loud. I was OK with this but if you are a light sleeper this might be a problem for some people! Turndown each night left gorgeous chocolates or cookies on the bed and on two nights we even received small gifts from the hotel too.

We didn't have any problems getting a sunlounger except for one day out of ten. That day we just used the loungers on the beach. You do get harassed by the sellers on the beach but if you just don't make eye contact they usually give up and walk on! We found that beds became available at all different times of the day anyway as very few people sat there all day and so beds would become free after a couple of hours anyway. The lawn area isn't plush like some resorts but it's right by the beach and is large enough. At the end of the day this is a boutique style hotel. The loungers are very comfortable and can be made into z poisition or flat or upright. There is waiter service for food and drink too so you don't have to move- heaven! The infinity pool was great and a good size for swimming lengths or just relaxing in and watching the ocean.

The breakfast here was fantastic! Excellent coffee which can be hard to find overseas! A la carte hot menu and cold buffet breakfast. the croissants and pastries are just devine! You sit and have breakfast whilst overlooking the pool and beach area and it's just wonderful. The hotel food in general was very good. We had room service a couple of times and lunch here most days. Very fresh and delicious.

The rooftop bar has now re-opened so the DJ events are now held there instead of the lawn area. The view is lovely for sunset although they were still finishing the bar off when we were there so it wasn't quite complete but still nice to sit and have a drink on the huge sofas there.

My negative point about the hotel was the lift. There's no service lift and so you would be waiting for ages for the lift as the staff would be going up and down in it. I think this might have just been one of the lifts, but happened to be the one at our side of the hotel. When you're staying on the top floor, it's a lot of stairs to walk up and would become annoying to have to wait each time.

We used the spa here twice and had a great experience both times. The girls were fantastic and the quality of the service and products used were also of a high standard.

The location of the hotel was perfect. Right on the beach, opposite Gado Gado (also highly recommend!) and a five minute taxi ride to eat street and the shops or 10 mins to Ku de Ta , Hu'u Bar, Living Room. You could walk along the beach to these locations however also in about 10 mins.

All in all we had a magical time and I would highly recommend this hotel for young to middle aged couples. There were a couple of families there with small children and the kids seemed to be happy although there aren't the big family style pool areas of say larger hotels.

We were so disappointed with our stay at Anantara Seminayak Bali! This hotel is just not worth the money! While our room was spacious and nice with a view of the ocean, however when you looked closer it was done on the cheap, the sliding door to the balcony didn't close properly, some of the power points didn't work and the lamp shades looked like they were purchased at Ikea, they get away with it now while the hotel is relatively new, however in a few years time it's going to be terrible.
I will say the beds were unbelievably large and comfortable and the shower and bathroom was also huge.
This hotel needs to decide what it is and what market it is aiming at. It claims to be 5 star, it prices indicate that it should be 5 star but it is appears to be also marketing itself towards the "party" crowd with DJ nights and fashion nights definitely not an exclusive relaxing resort.
In the rooms were tacky kites to purchase and I could not believe on the first night a card was slipped under our door to enticing us to buy into the resort and invest in one of the room like an infomercial.
Possibly the biggest disappointment is the beach/pool area. The photos on the Internet do not give you a realistic picture. The resort has been built on a small patch of land, there are no lush gardens surrounding the pool area like at other hotels such as the Sofitel or Legian. There is a very small grassed area to sit with not enough day bed/lounges for all the guests, and then at approximately 4pm the music starts! It is on the most unattractive crowded part of Seminyak beach, so we actually choose every day to take our towels, sunscreens and books walk approximately 15 minutes up the beach, and pay for a sun-lounge to sit on all day instead.
The breakfast was average, and infact we weren't even aware until our last day that the breakfast was included!
We booked the hotel after looking at pictures on the internet, one of the features that looked appealing was the roof top bar. However when we got there the top floor was a construction site as apparently the authorities had ordered that the hotel had been build higher than regulations allowed, so at around 9am you lay in bed and could hear hammering and bagging.
In the hotel lifts there are advertisements for it's restaurant, or salsa night or next international DJ like something you would see advertising a new cafeteria in a department store. One of the lifts wasn't working and there is no service lift for staff so it was quicker to take the stairs.
The staff was very friendly and pleasant however the service just tended to be a bit hit and miss.
Previous to staying here were had spent 5 days staying in the Legain, which was amazing! The prices were comparable so overall we left Anantara with a bad taste in our mouth feeling just disappointed we had paid so much.

Dear Anantara Guest,

Greetings from Seminyak, Bali and thank you for staying with us recently. The team at Anantara is very glad to receive your valuable feedback and we thank you for your time into posting such constructive review, your point of view is very important to us and we have taken on board all your remarks and shared them with our team members.

First of all and on behalf of the management team, I would like to take a moment and personally apologize for not making your stay at Anantara a memorable experience; for the record, we have certainly taken on board your positive comments regarding our large and comfortable suites as well as our very friendly and pleasant staff, it is with great pride that we acknowledge your compliments and we will pass them on to our associates. On the other hand, it is with deep regret that we have acknowledged your disappointment concerning the small lawn at the beachfront, our rooftop bar SOS not being ready yet during your stay and our DJ music concept. Once again, sorry for this inconvenience but thank you for bringing them to our attention for further consideration and follow up.

Following your comments, I would like to agree that the lawn area between the poolside and the beach is not very large however, we do feel that the size does fit with the rest of the resort boutique concept and while sometimes we might lack of better positioned sun beds during peak demand, we have one of the best beach spots in Seminyak and alternatively, we always provide sun beds on the beach in addition to the lawn units, providing towels and food and beverage service for everyone staying at our resort.

With regards to the DJ events taking place by the beachfront lawn in the afternoon, we are aware it has been an ongoing issue for some of our guests and through this note, we are pleased to announce to all readers that our rooftop lounge SOS is now operating on weekends and hosting all of main events going forward and effective from mid September onwards, it will be fully operational on a daily basis; therefore, there will be no more DJ event sessions taking place outside of our bar outlet, which is fully sound-proofed. More information will follow in our website shortly!

Thank you once again for sharing your point of view with our readers, I am personally sorry we were not able to please you entirely and my team and I will continue working hard in our efforts to please every customer.

We look forward to continue bringing more and more guests to Bali, the Island of Gods!

Stayed here in the middle of July and while the rooms are really beautiful and the breakfasts truly fantastic it was the staff who made our stay here. They could not do enough for us or any guests. However we felt that the area between the hotel and beach was small and there were not enough of beds unless you were up at the crack of down.At night it was like being in a night club with the music on certain nights. The hotel is very hip but lacks sophistication and we felt that it wanted to cater for 20-30yr olds not us almost 40yr olds. That being said it is still worth a visit

Quite possibly the best experience in terms of service, food and friendliness of any hotel we have staying in throughout the world.

The staff at the Anantara seem to genuinely want to make it a stay to remember from the security men at the front ensuring your taxi charges by meter, to the room service, to the restaurant team - to everyone working there!

The very friendly manager/s would regularly walk the hotel speaking to guests ensuring all their needs are taken care of - why doesn't every hotel do this???

In terms of service it would outstrip bigger more famous hotels on all fronts making it super value...as we found out when we moved to our next hotel in the Bali hills.

Their food and beverage concepts, especially breakfast were by far the best in Asia.

Location is in beautiful Seminyak with cool upmarket restaurants and bars either a short walk or taxi ride away.

We had a 10 month old baby with us and the staff made him so welcome. Everyone seemed to remember his name.

Other guests were open and friendly adding to the overall experience.

We want to go back asap. Thank you to all the staff.
