The Kunja Villas & Spa
Ranked #2 of 149 Hotels in Seminyak
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed December 15, 2009

I stayed at The Kunja with my husband and daughter in Sept 09. My only regret is we didnt stay longer! After staying at other hotels and villas i found Kunja to be the only one that gave you real privacy and top service. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff. Cleanliness was the best I've seen in Bali.
The only downside is the location but not enough for it to stop me staying here again! We walked into the heart of Seminyak (with a pram) many times and it was an easy walk. I don't really swim at the beach in Bali so it didnt worry me by not being on the beach. The big pool was more than enough to satisfy me!
Do yourself a favor and book, you wont be disappointed!

Simply stop looking and book. This place is a hidden gem, quiet, no kids, service is A+, location we loved because it's not so close to the beach (5 mins) but easy to get to if you want the crowds, private pool, breakfast and room service whenever you want, lots of shade or direct sun, transfers to and from airport and the same for local trips.
Tips: Restaurants, Kiri Kiri at The Oberoi Hotel not cheap for Bali but to die for food. The Sarong, just opened and 2 seconds down the road, very cheap but good. Ku De Ta for those who like a crowd and to be seen. Massages, for pampering then go no further than the Kunja otherwise try Bodyworks, lots of different types and the 2 person one is an experience.
Our first trip was May 09, we went back in September and we are already planning our next visit. The managment and staff invented the word service, nothing is too much.

Enjoy, we are envious of you already.

I was very excited about staying here.. I booked online through Booking.com and got a last minute rate. Stayed here for the last two nights in Bali, after three other hotels. We stayed here for the location and based on the reviews, but....

The location isn't bad, but certainly not walking distance to anything. A one-way transport service is provided, where a driver will take you into town, but not pick you up? I wasn't too impressed by that..

Staff and service is excellent, very well trained, presented and get on with their work without you knowing they are around. The driver got us a reservation to eat at Sarong for dinner, and is close enough you just whizz over in a golf buggy! Loved that. Sarong was yummy. Staff can always be friendly/rude.. i only care how and how fast the job is done. And they always did the job well.

The rooms i had issues with. We were moved from one to another after five minutes- which wasn't a problem at all.. The staff did everything for us and its our own fault for showing up two hours early.

They are very well appointed, i loved having a seperate dressing room, and beautiful linens... But i think, maybe sparse is the word? Felt like a high rise studio apartment.

Frustratingly too, the internet is available for free to ONE person. You get ONE wireless password. Thats just crazy. It costs nothing, we all needed to be online and it was about 20$ extra for 24 hours for another password - something excessive. Already costs 300$ for the room for a night...

The bathroom, on first impression, is amazing. And it is huge. Boring toiletries, no bottled water in the bathroom (a must!), but nice big basin area. But the floor, is a problem. the floor is made up of sections of tiled floor, with areas of rocks in between. Awesome in theory - but the drain is on the opposite side of the room to the shower, so all the over run and splash water from the shower hangs around under the rocks, slowly either evaporating or making its way to the drain, which made our bathroom smell 'moist'. Also, no exhaust fan around the toilet area and no switch for the lights in the bathroom.. they are just 'on'.. all night..

The outside area was stunning, beautiful big pool area.. well developed gardens, lots of space to hang out and entertain friends. Breakfast is cooked by the pool each morning by very very friendly staff - but i hope you like eggs! Not much choice at all in the way of food, and i found the quality of the ingredients to really not be the most amazing, especially with two gourmet places pretty close by. Packet croissants and pretty average juices.. What the cook made up with the eggs was great.

Another issue i had was that, the pool area has slip proof travatine looking paving, you immediately walked onto slippery shiny tiles. What the? Its an inside-outside pool-living-dining area!!

I just get the feeling.. that this place was built to very high standards. Its beautiful and feels safe and solid.. Wonderful plants and gardens, and very efficient staff. But that what they are given to work with isn't great.. Cheap sausages at an expensive cafe.. Thats how i felt!

I said to the travel agent:- "I want to get away, without the kids, without the laptop and blackberry, and reconnect with my wife again" - it was our 15th wedding anniversary at same time. It had to be Bali as wife had already booked the F.Flyer tickets.

Well, this place was just perfect - the villa's were spacious verging on huge, luxuriously appointed, everything was well considered to ensure a relaxing and peaceful stay. Private pool was cherry on the top.

The staff always smiled and said yes to every request, so much so that I often did not know if the request was even understood, but sure enough, they came through with everything we requested - nothing was too much trouble for them.

Free massage was included and wife thoroughly enjoyed all spa treatments she had.

As to my ratings:
I gave it 5 for Value, as we got great value as it hit all the spots, but it is not cheap.
I gave 4 for Location as its not on the beach, but it is only a 10 minute walk to the beach
(they will drive you to beach or local shops with their vehicles on request)

This was a real treat for the 2 of us and is highly recommended.

The Kunja villa's are an awesome choice. We were in a 3 bedroom villa with friends with large bedrooms and enormous bathrooms. The villa's are beautifully maintained, the garden and pool is superb and the service is excellent. It is the only place in Bali I have ever stayed (10 visits) where I have ever experienced absolute silence. Not a sound was to be heard as I was lying by the pool one day. We had a great night enjoying the in-villa barbeque with the blender working to capacity using ingredients that the everhelpful staff shoppped for using our shopping list. At one stag we did not leave the villa for 40 hours straight...there was just no need with everything there....Fiona and Dave, Darwin, Australia.

A group of friends and I went to Bali for a long deserved break and booked 2 x 3 bedoom villas at the Kunja. We have all stayed in Bali on several occassions and were completey blown away by the Kunja!
The villas are extremely spacious, with a fantastic open plan entertaining area. The 3 bedrooms and bathroom / ensuite are massive, with individualy designed bathrooms for each bedroom. The pool was sensational, and the water temperature was perfect!
Each morning, breakfast was cooked for us and served in our villa and we also organised a BBQ dinner at our villa, where the staff would decorate the villa and gave us the unique Bali experience accompanied with traditional Bali musicians.
The staff were extremely helpful and friendly, and no request was too hard, including transport around Seminyak and Kuta.
I have again booked to stay at the Kunja Villas in January and August and recommend them to friends catching up, a romantic getaway and families taking a break from the everyday. Cant wait to go back!!!
