We stayed over the period on 17th - 20th May (4D3N - definitely too short) at the Royal Pavilion 1 Bedroom villa. We read many raving reviews before we finally made this decision and man, all of them were absolutely truth! It blew us completely away; leaving us in awe throughout the stay. Thumbs up to all, and we mean ALL of the service staffs in Samaya!

**ARRIVAL**
Upon arrival, there is airport escort waiting at the immigrations check-out point in the airport. He led us directly all the way to the exit (like going through an express lane without queuing with other travelers!), while he handled all the necessary processing of passports, luggage, etc. We didn't have to do a single thing! All we had to do is meet our butler at the entrance, where he warmly welcomed and introduced himself, got us into the air conditioned mini-van to cool ourselves while he prepared ice-cold minty wet towels and bottled mineral water to freshen up. It wasn't an ordinary van; it was very new and clean, with huge and spacious seating (like a massage chair) with a mini-table and cupholder to place our mobile phone/ bottled water/wet towels.

During the trip to the hotel, the butler was very friendly and polite, gave us some insights on Seminyak and shared some part of his family background. We felt at eased, knowing and learning a little more about the Bali life and culture.

At the hotel, we were greeted by at least 3 other butlers who placed frangipani garlands for us (my husband loved the scent!) and brought us directly to the villa. All the check-in processing was also done in the villa itself! No more waiting in the main lobby! There was also welcome yummy citrus juice and fruits to savour whilst the check-in. If i'm not wrong, our butler's name was Rusman (couldn't really see his name tag and it was late at night and we were overwhelmed by the excellent service so far), and he also gave us a succinct yet clear room tour and instructions on how to use the facilities.

**VILLA**
The villa was very well maintained and clean. The lighting was subtle and romantic, very comfortable and relaxing. As per request, they have kindly provided us a BOSE theatre system for our in-room entertainment (we brought our own dvds and only to realise they have a huge collection to choose from actually!). More than 15 channels in the villa, more than enough to keep yourself occupied if you prefer to stay in the villa. The entrance and indoor jacuzzi was beautiful decorated with frangipani and roses (honeymoon), the master bedroom has lilies, and there was a Happy Honeymoon cake in the refrigerator too! They were so thoughtful, they even has mosquito repellent, insect burner and spray for us in case required.

The in-house accessories were also stylish as they used pretty high end brands such as Kohler and hansgrohe. The toiletries were actually also from Crabtree and Evelyn.

The bathroom was a elongated and huge area of the villa, two vanities, one make-up desk with in-built lighting, one indoor shower, one outdoor shower (awesome to shower under the stars ! =P)and indoor jacuzzi with TV. There is also another outdoor jacuzzi right next to the pool.
The pool looks exactly like the ones in the website gallery, with the lovely gazebo to hangout right next to the private pool.

**LOCATION**
The Samaya is less than 30 mins away from the airport actually (without traffic jam then), and walking distance to Seminyak square (shopping along the rows of shop houses) and right outside is just Bodyworkz (popular Seminyak Spa and massage). Ku De Ta/ Potato Head is just about 5 minutes drive from the hotel.

Our villa is also facing directly the beach, so all day we could just hear crashing waves, birds chirping and perhaps occasional crickets at night. No chatter from crowd, no loud music at parties, no noise from the traffic. Absolute peace. The moment you open the main door, you walk right into the main swimming pool and Breeze Restaurant, overlooking the beach. On the left, it is where the in-house Samaya Spa & massage is located.

**SERVICE**
Everybody is absolutely friendly and polite. Everyone smiles and greets you, some even remember our names. Daily breakfast and tea is held at the breeze, wonderful place to enjoy our meal and the sunset/sunrise. There is also daily service for laundry/dry cleaning 2 pieces per day, a rare complimentary service that we've encountered so far. They do room cleaning very regularly, at least twice a day just to make sure the room is constantly tidy and neat. They also shut the curtains for you and make your bed at night, open the curtains to allow natural light in the day. Of course, you can opt out from this service simply by turning on the "DO NOT DISTURB" switch.

The staff were mostly knowledgeable, they often share other popular local restaurants/hangouts if you would like to venture out of Samaya hotel itself. Unlike most hotels, they would usually highly recommend in-house restaurants and massages only. The butlers are very helpful, they provided daily shuttle services (almost like a 24hr service) to drive and pick you up anywhere in Seminyak and Legian area. This gives us ultimate convenience especially during the hot afternoons and we do not need to wait around for taxis. All our butlers so far were very patient with us (there were twice where we drove out to Ku De ta and Potato head for 1 hours meals, they gladly picked us up after meals even though it was within such a short time since they dropped us)

On my birthday, an additional birthday cake was sent to our villa too! :) What a pleasant surprise.

On the last day of our breakfast, one of the staffs even took notice as we went for breakfast and came forth to check with us when would be a good time to arrange for pickup and check-out after we're done as we did not inform them the day before. They took the initiative to ensure we will not missed or be late for our flight that day.

Upon check-out, when asked to fill a comments / feedback form, I did a simple write up and couldnt pen down the details as we were in a rush to the airport. Right in the afternoon, the GM of the hotel, Ray Clark immediately read and replied my review directly to my email. So impressed that they actually read it so quickly.

**SPA**
We chose the Couples Bliss package (comprises of FULL body massage, foot scrub, milk bath in jacuzzi, facial, a wonderful view of the beach again), completely worth the 2.5hours of it! Worth every cent as we have tried other massages in other companies in Seminyak, this was way better! Our masseuses (Amy and Oyu) was professional, they would always explain the products and process before proceeding. They will also always ask for your opinion of the current massage process, so they could adjust accordingly. And when they say they use natural ingredients for facial, they don't mean bottles of essence that states "au naturale". They ACTUALLY use real orange slices, real yogurt, real oats and honey. It's so natural, we can eat it off our faces! The only awkward part is that they actually watch you strip naked as you enter the jacuzzi, which is a little weird as most massage parlors would leave you before you jump in.

**FOOD**
We had daily breakfast and afternoon tea at the Breeze, there was a variety of European, western and local breakfast to choose from.We also had my birthday dinner on our last night in Bali, the seafood was really fresh and tasty, the portions were also very generous. So much so, we were so full we couldn't eat the complimentary cake in the villa anymore! The foie gras was really good, they infused it with tomato slices and a special sauce they made. One of my favorites among all those i've tried in my own country! They service was good, they've given some recommendations on the selection, provided insect repellent as well and when asked to help take a photo, they even tried to take it from several angles so we could choose which ones we prefer! This has surprised us because most restaurants service staff would just snap one photo and in most instances, people will just accept that one photo rather than troubling them to re-take again.

On the whole, the whole experience was perfect and unforgettable. We absolutely loved this hotel and would recommend to anyone who is willing to pay a little more for the ultimate relaxation. We will definitely want to try Samaya at Ubud next time or even come back here again. Initially we wanted to stay from 17th - 21st May since we only arrive late on 17th. Unfortunately, during our online booking, the villa is blocked out on 20th May hence we had no choice but to only go for 4D3N stay. 5D4N would have been perfect!

Hubby and i spent anniversary there for 4d3n.

The airport was hot and we were feeling very uncomfortable, then came the life-saving hotel pickup, the AC and the ice cold water and towels. We were revived the instantly.

Everything about this place is heavenly. The staff were very accommodating, and as commented by other reviewers, they were very sincere as well.

Villa was flawless, perfect for the occasion. Spa did not disappoint a bit, was as pampering as the breakfast and tea services provided.

You will not need to leave the comfort of your villa except for dinner, speaking of which the dinner in their restaurant was excellent as well.

Highly recommended for that special occasion for that special person.

We stayed at The Samaya for 1 week in April and it was amazing. The hotel was excellent, we hardley have any negative comments.

The good:

- The hotel arranged for an airport escort. The man met us right after we got off the plane deep inside the terminal with a sign with our names. He quickly escorted us to the area where we could get our tourist visa, which cost $25 per person. He was able to take us past the lines, took us to a special customs desk, where there weren't any lines and were basically the first people to arrive in the baggage claim area. If you do this, make sure you have Rupiah to tip. Otherwise, you have to stop at the airport money exchange desks that are very expensive. Our airport escort brought us to our hotel driver who was waiting for us.
- The van to the hotel was air conditioned, our driver handed us cool, moist, refreshing wash cloths that smelled amazing, along with several cold water bottles. The drive is only 15 km but takes 45 minutes because of traffic.
- The service was phenomenal. We were welcomed warmly with beautiful leis and a refreshing, tropical drink. They gave us a great tour of the facility.
- The private bungalow was exquisite: private pool, sitting area by the pool, sitting area inside, king bed, huge bathroom, separate toilette room, shower room, bath, and outdoor shower.
- The hotel services were numerous and on the house. Free internet. Excellent service. Almost every time we left the room, someone would make it up, bring fresh fruit or a little snack, ensure we had plenty of bottled water, etc. When we would sit on the deck area above the beach, the staff laid out towels for us, brought waters, fresh fruit, and in the afternoons, we had afternoon coffee/tea with little snacks that were great - all included.
- All staff members were very kind and would greet us as we walked past - from the managers to the gardeners.
- Comment cards are given after meals which are always amazing. After a great dinner one night, during which we asked for some more rice with our meal, we mentioned that the price of the cup rice (which was about $8) was really high. We didn't think anything would come of it but when we checked out, they had removed the cost of the rice from our bill. It was nice to know they read the comments.
- Breakfast was included and was also delicious. They had western and local cuisine.
-Excellent location. The beach is quiet and beautiful. We were about a 5 minute walk from a great bar/restaurant called Ku De Ta which is a great place to sit and watch the sunset while drinking a cool beer or one of their specialty cocktails.

The not so good:
- The only 'negative' thing we can say about this hotel is that there aren't really any ocean view rooms.
- It's possible that this place is slightly overpriced as it was expensive.

Room Tip: All the bungalows have high walls so you can't see the ocean from inside the units. There are a handful of bungalows whose front doors face the pool and ocean which are close to the restaurant and deck area. These would probably be the best. If you can't stay in one of those, we stayed in room 116 and it was excellent.

We stayed here on our honeymoon last month. What can I say... The best resort we have ever visited! From the personal welcome of Ray Clarke, the GM to the service of the staff, the breakfast, everything is perfect. The most amazing part is the villa itself. We had a villa on the beachside with private pool and jacuzzi. First impression is that its enormous, a beautiful design and everything is arranged to perfection. This is by far the most beautiful place we have ever stayed in! We also had a romantic dinner on the island which was amazing as well as a fantastic spa treatment. To wrap it up, if you look for THE place for a honeymoon it cant get better than this.

Room Tip: Chose the sea side villas

Lot's people put high comments on this hotel and that was one of the reason I chose it. Now let me highlight some improvement parts.

1: the tropical touch.
Second time flew to Bali from the UK, I was dreaming of those magical tropical fruits I had when I strayed in Bali last year. This was let down by Samaya's daily fruit plate which was mainly apple and orange (boring)...For breakfast, i can hardly get any tropical indulges. The hotel seems very conservative to introduce local taste, instead it keeps its kitchen very westernised. It's hard to find things like dragon fruits and lychee there.

2: Breakfast
I had the best Asian breakfast in Intercontinental Bali. Amazing. Full of tropical fruits, juice, tasty noodle etc. It was not the best hotel in bali but definitely the best breakfast in Bali. Compared with that, Samaya's breakfast was rather boring. If you are very conservative western tourists and still prefer to taste traditional English breakfast in Bali, then this is the pace for you. Yes, the food was a le carte, but i'd rather it presents much more Asian infused varieties than pancakes, bacon etc.
I asked the waitress whether they can ask kitchen to make noodle soup (which is Asian traditional breakfast anyway), this was not able to be accommodated. I was disappointed.

3: Spa
Not the best place for a magical Spa experience.
If you looking for value to money, go to place like intercontinental. Daily free jacuzzi and steam room, sauna etc.
If you looking for extreme luxury, go for ubud jungle spa.
Spa Decoration in samalya was a bit plain. The service itself was nice and treatment nice but the decoration is a big part of the experience. So Samaya lost here.

On the positive side. I need mention the dish "grilled river prawn". The prawn size was literally a small lobster size! I travel around the world for amazing food. That dish deserves to be included in my memorable collection, together with king crab legs in Vegas, for best water/seafood. Interesting the hotel does not highly recommend that dishes. Guess lots of seafood lovers must missed it. Rest menu pretty westernised.

The general service in this place is very well trained and nicely delivered. It's bathroom makes most luxury hotels shy.

Generally, good experience and if with the right touch, it could be amazing.

Room Tip: Avoid rooms on the edge of hotel because you can see neighbour hotel's rooms!
