“Fabulous hotel, relaxing & traditional balinese. Not one to be missed!”
Reviewed April 29, 2010

The Hotel was fantastic. Driving into the Vila Lumbung for the first time was a great feeling - I knew we had made the right choice. The hospitality was great and the entire atmosphere was instantly relaxing. We stayed in a deluxe villa (when you book a deluxe villa you book either the top floor or the ground floor) which was massive, traditional balinese and beautiful. We had the top floor and there was so much space. A big balcony with a couch over looking the greenery, a big bed type couch comfortable for reading & surrounded by windows. a regular couch and the usual (for Bali) massive california king size bed. Which was ultra comfortable! The bathroom was clean and big - the shower rose also had pressure which was a big plus. The only issues with the room was lack of effective lighting - I think it is lit to look romantic which it definately acheives - but a bit more light for reading on the big couch-bed would be ideal. The only other issue was the lack of free purified water. I guess I'm a bit spoilt having always stayed in big resorts where a waterfilter is available for use. At Lumbung the only free water was in the bathroom (2 x 600 ml) for washing teeth. The rest could be purchased from the mini bar. We just tried to remember to pick up a couple of bottles from the supermarket on the way home to supplement our supply, or we drank Bintang - not much of a choice really!
The hotel is mainly all traditional open air balinese, set in gorgeous lush green gardens. It is small and has that boutique feel about it. When we arrived there didn't seem many guests but the numbers seemed to grow towards the end of the stay. Yet it was still quiet, peaceful and we never had the feeling of been crowded. There is a great pool with a swim up bar in the lower level!
The hotel is located in a very quiet area. Which is great if you'd like to be away from it all but close enough. If you were wanting a (market) shopping holiday - there is a little way to go into Kuta or Legian (about 20-30mins due to the traffic). Seminyak centre is only about a 5 minute taxi ride away but is focused on boutique shopping. Taxi's are so cheap and easy to come by it really is of little consequence. As a guide it cost between Rp35K - Rp42K to get to/from Kuta and only Rp8K to get into Seminyak. There are a few restaurants in easy walking distance from the hotel which were great.
All in all a wonderful place to stay and well worth checking out!

I've actually stayed at this hotel twice. What I like about it is it's excellent location and it's great value. It's not what I'd call indulgent but you get what you pay for and then some. The big plus's include a lovely pool, which is never over crowded, friendly staff, decent and included buffet breakfast, excellent by the pool massage and clean well equipped rooms. On the negative side it can look a bit tired in places, but for the price I think that is absolutely fair. I've only stayed in the Superior Rooms, never a Villa, so this review is based on my experience based on this.

We stayed 6 nights at Vila Lumbung. We booked the deluxe Villa, that has a spacious room with shower and bath outside has we stayed in ground floor. The bed was the best we had in our stay in Bali. The breakfast doesn't have many variety of food for us, portuguese healthy couple, as they offer nasi goreng, fried bacon and stuff like that in the morning, and there's no natural juices or milkshakes.
The hotel has construction undergoing in the pool area, and we think that the guests should be adviced when booking. Because of the work the water and the bottom of the pool are a little bit dirty so we didn't even tried it.
The hotel has beautiful gardens, and it's a short walk from the beach. But the beach it's awfull!! Black, dirty sand, and a beach break with some dangerous looking waves. We rented a moto for all the 6 days because we stayed previously in Tanjung, and Nusa Dua beach and all the reef breaks in Padang Padang area are much more pleasant for sunbathing and surf.

The highlight of Vila Lumbung was the bed - it had the most comfortable bed we have ever slept in. The room also included a day bed which was fantastic for reading a book on a hot day. Everything was clean and hygienic and the shower was great. The only negative about the room was the dim lighting - made reading at night difficult. The service was satisfactory, as was the food - nothing spectacular though. The pool was lovely. The worst thing about Vila Lumbung is the location. It is somewhat isolated which means you really have to taxi everywhere, unless you love walking. However, this does make it a quiet place to stay. We began our honeymoon here and it was definitely a great place to begin a relaxing holiday.

A nice, clean hotel, with villas dotted around lush gardens and an attractive pool and restaurant area. Perhaps a little isolated, but with taxis costing so little, that's not an issue. And all the taxi drivers know it. Good facilities in room, including adjustable aircon, safe, TV, telephone, hairdryer, drying racks on balcony etc.

My boyfriend and I stayed here from late Oct to early November 09 and the staff and room were great. We had a downstairs bungalow with an outdoor bathroom which was very romantic but also beware the mosquitos! We had a little bit of an issue of perhaps being able to be seen while in the bath but the blinds seemed to always be down in that room we hope!
One downside was that we would have liked to be a bit closer to the beach and maybe to a few more shops. It would cost us about AU$5 in a bluebird taxi to get to Kuta (with a tip) from our hotel which isn't much but we would have preferred to be a bit closer.
Overall though the staff were very friendly and helpful, the room was lovely and big, the outdoor bathroom a real novelty. The pools were lovely too, hotel restaurant a little expensive but thought the food was pretty good. A nice relaxing stay, just check they aren't still doing repairs to the hotel lobby roof, they had started that just before we left around the 2nd Nov 09.
