“Balinese, always gentle and polite”
Reviewed July 9, 2012

We spent a week there at the beginning of June. Perfect weather.
Gentle, sweet staff, always polite as true Balinese are.
The rooms are quite basic but pleasant, they are spacious and look out over gardens.
The bathroom was a bit on the tired side and could do with a bit of smartening up. The hot water tended to run hot and cold, lucky it was Bali and not a cold climate! The bath towels were old - no pile and not white anymore. However, the towels provided at the pool were still fluffy and soft.
Breakfast area is relaxing with great food and they will cook you an omelette or scrambled eggs. Good variety of food and helpful staff.
Large swimming pool and plenty of sun lounges.
Try to avoid school holidays or ‘internet deals’ as it seems there are a lot of package travellers there. There was a group who must have taken their kids out of school and virtually took over the pool area. The father was louder than all the kids and it was unbearable to try and relax at the pool. The Balinese staff were too polite to say anything although it clearly annoyed them as well as the other guests.
Hotel management need a sign reminding guests to consider others around the pool.
Otherwise, the pool was lovely and once the noise subsided, we made the most of it.
It is close to great restaurants, Sarong is a two minute walk and possibly the best eating experience we have ever had in Bali. There is also a cheap and cheerful Thai restaurant just a few minutes walk away too.
Taxis are plentiful and cheap, however we were made aware that the ‘Bluebird’ taxis are government owned and not Balinese, so we always waved them on and took a local Balinese taxi instead. Maybe not quite as new, but still ok and made us feel better supporting the Balinese rather than Indonesia.

Seven of us recently stayed at Villa Lumbung - the staff from the origin of my booking Ayu to the end of my stay 8 days were nothing short of professional, pleasant, wanting to assist in any way possible to make our visit memorable. Some of the rooms are need of renovating and upgrading, particularly the bathroom but obviously the owners are onto this and they have already commenced the upgrades. But overall, for the price, location, staff and amenities it is a lovely place to stay. Special thanks to Ayu - who is very professional when booking a holiday at this hotel. Chris G.

Room Tip: Villa rooms are in the best location - surrounded by beautiful gardens and more indoor space - the c...

Vila Lumbung is a very goos hotel for the cost.
The hotel is centrally located ; very closed to the beach and the restaurant/bar areas.
The breakfast buffet is excellent and the surrounding, lobby and pool area very BEAUTIFUL!!! The rooms are ok.
The only drawback are the bathrooms...the are old, smelly and need renovation ASAP.

We stayed at Vila Lumbung in June as a couple for 13 nights in an upstairs bungalow for 3 nights then I was moved to a downstairs bungalow 7B for the rest of our stay as the stairs were not good for my back. The staff were lovely and the new bungalow was fantastic we are definately coming back next year.
The only fault I would mention is that the evening meal needs to be of a higher standard would not have dinner in restaurant but great breakfast.

Room Tip: Ground floor bungalow up the front near reception we stayed 7B was brilliant. Air conditioning a bit...

I stayed here with my sister in June 2010. We shared a superior hotel room with twin beds on the 2nd floor. Had plenty of space, nice large balcony and bathroom was clean, well laid out and had all the basic neccessities.
Breakfast was always fresh, well stocked and had good variety - I liked the egg station where you could order omlettes or eggs anyway. Pastries, breads, cereals etc are available.
Staff were helpful and friendly at checkin and checkout - NB I did overhear another guest complaining at checkin about a rat being in his ground floor villa and he was demanding to be moved and the staff were handling this with grace and professionalism despite being yelled at. (Rats and mosquitos are just something I have gotten used too in Bali - with lots of lush gardens around the hotel as well as rice fields and laneways next door, its just something you come to expect although I would probably ask to be moved up higher too if I saw one in the room!)
Pool area is not huge but big enough for the size of the hotel - fresh towels are free to use and day beds were comfy and plentiful.
Location is a little away from main area of Seminyak but there are some convieniences close by including a 7-11, laundry service and Sarong Restaurant within 2-3 mins walk! (Best Restaurant in Seminyak!) Gardens areound the hotel are beautiful and I was able to pick a fresh flower for my hair most days (with permission of course!) Entrance is about a 2-3 min walk up a road off Jln Pettitinget with a security guard and boom gate 24hrs per day.
I thought the price for the room at $175US per night was a little on the high side, but then it was considered high season when we were there and as I booked quite last minute there was not a lot around to choose from.
I was happy with this hotel and would stay here again, if I needed a hotel room in a quiet location, was sharing a room with friends or family.
PS I went to check out the deluxe 3 bedroom deluxe villa just recently (June 2012) for a future family trip and I would definitly consider this for a big group. Great layout, loads of room and the mixing of the twin and double beds is great for those not wanting to share a bed with your annoying sister or brother!!)

Room Tip: Book a table at Sarong Restaurant just around the corner from here - well worth it! Also the laundry...

I stayed three nights in June, and was generally pleased with the property, the service, and my room. The one complaint I had was the sliding glass doors going out to my balcony. They weren't flush with the frame, which meant there was over an inch clearance on the right side for mosquitos to get in. The other drawback was the noisy kids. Beware of hotels that provide a free buffet breakfast, because families with kids look for free meals for all those hungry mouths. So, starting at about 8 am, the little guys starting screaming (cuz that's what kids do in a pool). The hotel is really very nice, though, and in a great location in the upper part of Seminyak, away from bar noise or traffic sounds at night, but close to restaurants, shops, spas, etc. The staff was quite friendly and helpful as well.
