This advice may help you when travelling to Bali.
To enter Bali you need $25 US cash per person to pay for your visa. Remember to keep your departure card in your passport as you will need is when you exit, you will also need to pay Rp150k per person when you exit this must also be paid in cash.
Once you've cleared customs and head to collect your bags DONT LET THE "PORTERS" touch your bags as this will cost you. they wear blue shirts and look official but be polite and say no thank you and handle your own bags.
As soon as you exit the arrival hall turn left to go to the blue bird taxi service (taksi) and pay for your transfer to your hotel INSIST THE DRIVER TURN ON HIS METER. this applies for all your travel around BALI only use metered taksi and ask the driver to turn on his meter.
These are the first questions you will be asked. Where you from and have you been to BALI before. Remember to say that you've been to bali before a few times NEVER SAY ITS YOUR FIRST TIME.
When you go out and shop, bargain etc. the price you are told is highly inflated so give a price less than half of what the sellers told you if they say no just walk away they will budge. Once you've agreed on a price you obligated to purchase as not purchasing after a deal is done is very rude.
If you hate to bargain then Go to KETUTS is the last allyway down Garlic Ln before you get to Melasti JL all fixed price. You could go there and ask the price of various items at least then youll be better equipped to tackle the markets with an idea of prices.
Remember that these people are really poor and a few dollars go along way for them and their families but don't get ripped of, so if the price is 10K that's only a dollar so don't argue over a dollar.
For shopping I recommend Bali Brasco (GOOD PRICES) you get a voucher for their spa if you spend over 500k , Descovery Mall Kuta (Prices are similar to Australia) Galerria (Fair Prices) these shops sell better quality clothes than the markets or street sellers the prices are fixed price, Matahari shopping centres also good. All these store cater predominantly for the Asian market and getting male sizes XL XXL and 38 are very hard to come by.
If you would like to do a few tours then you should research a few places make out a list and tell your driver to take you to those places remember that the drivers receive a commission from the places they take you to so be adamant you want to go to the places of your choice.
I paid around 500k for the driver for the day that's a fair price from Legian to Kentamani volcano and Back stopping along the way the whole trip started at 7:00am till 7:00pm at night. I paid the driver more out of choice as he never complained always a smile on his face and willing to wait while we took pics and walked around the temples kentamani volcano the rice paddys and monkey forest.
PM for his details hes a star or any questions you might have.
I do hope this will help
