“Nice hotel with super friendly staff”
Reviewed September 23, 2009

I went there on the 18th and stayed there for 2 nights. The staff are very friendly and polite. , The hotel is nice and quiet. The only downside is the varieties of the breakfast menu. On the 1st day I ordered Nasi Goreng/ Fried Rice. As I am allergic to egg, I asked the waiter whether they cooked the egg mixed with the rice. The response was the egg prepared sunny side up on the side of the rice. On the 2nd day, I ordered the same food again assuming it would be prepared just the same way like before. To my surprised this time the rice came with sunny side up egg and also mixed in the rice. However, I did not make any complain and just gave my breakfast to my wife and kid. I ended up with Instant noodle Yeay!!!. Overall, I will return to Oberoi again. I

Nice Property and Facilities.
Rooms are a bit old.
Bed was fine, but could use much nicer and newer Bedding.
Bathroom was okey, but a bit tired.

Landscaping and gardens were nice.

Breakfast was Amazing!
Had Eggs Benedict with Caviar.
Great Sea views, Nice Breeze, Orange Carrot Juice.
Was the Best Breakfast Ever!

Great Service, very personalized and genuine.

Nice Location on Seminyak, good for Relaxing and Partying at Night.

KU DE TA is a 10 min stroll by the beach.
Amazing Place to see the Sunset while enjoying great drinks and music.

A Nice Hotel, but would come back only after a major renovation of the rooms.

Having read afew negative reviews on here I was a little anxious but I need not have feared.
Its true that the villas are a bit 'old' but one can stay in any 5 star resort and not know where you are in the world as they are all the same!.
The oberioi is the most unique experience I have encountered. Superb staff and management that can teach any medit hotel how to give service.
Food was simply excellent the service and charm of the staff could not be matched

A garlanded arrival heralds a very beautiful hotel with a peaceful atmosphere and some wonderful touches of luxury.(Fresh fruit daily in rooms,British newspapers, treats by the pool.) Our room, a garden view lanai, strictly speaking had no garden view but was comfortable and well serviced. The 'rip-off' was breakfast. Not included and very expensive for rather indifferent a la carte dishes or an inclusive price including things a European might not want!! It requires commitment to leave the site into the noisy, hassle-ridden village of Seminyak for breakfast although we did it for dinner where prices and food were competitive with the Oberoi. The trip out we had with a driver and guide was the best day of our stay at the Oberoi and not ridiculously expensive when compared with breakfast. We hated Seminyak and indeed a lot of commercial Bali - the fascinating culture is immersed in an Indonesian version of the Costas for Australians with added hassle. The Oberoi is a good sanctuary

This was our first time to Bali. And so we wanted to stay at a luxurious but 'real' resort. Sure there are other more modern ones in Seminyak (Legian for instance), but you can't beat this one for authenticity, friendly and low key.

The staff were attentive, without being intrusive. Other guest were about a 3 way split between honey-mooners, weeding parties (but no weddings held on the property thank god) and gay couples. A perfect mix. Everybody kept to themselves (so no annoying chatter) and it was very, very relaxing.

We had a room on the South side of the property which was very quiet, except for one night when 66 Club was having a party.

Random thoughts:
+ Poolside food is great and good value
+ Right next door to Ku De Ta. Stroll down the beach for sun set cocktails
+ The buffet night was not great value (better food can be had elsewhere)
+ Spa is great and they have an morning special. Very good value.

A wonderful holiday

We went to the Oberoi for our honeymoon. We'd arranged a hotel limo pick up which we met up with no problem. The welcome was pleasant and we went to the garden view villa we were staying at on the south side of th complex. The villa was nice but the chairs and couch are pretty uncomfortable but the walk in bath is excellent and the four poster is very good.
The big problem we had is there is a disco/restaurant on the southern side of the Oberoi grounds and the music is so loud that that the words are clearly distinguishable in our rooms which meant we were woken at 01:00 a.m. and the music didn't stop until 03.00 a.m. We were naturally disappointed this being the first night of our stay. We raised this with reception and to our surprise they were unaware there was any issue (let me assure you there is most definitely a noise issue). They offered us a free upgrade to an ocean villa for three nights of our 7 night stay which still meant we were subjected to two more nights of interuppted sleep. However on our third night the noise from the south side was nothing compared to the pounding bass that came from a bar on the north side of the Oberoi grounds. A thud thud bass started at 16.00 and didn't stop unitl 02.00. Where as the southside bar music only affects the south part of the complex the north side music affects the whole complex (north side, pool, reception and south side). The only acknowledgement the Oberoi made was to provide ear plugs in our rooms. I must admit that I do not expect to stay in a luxury hotel and pay luxury hotel prices and have to be subjected to invasive music and be supplied with ear plugs! Now this music from the north side only happened once in our 7 night stay but is so ridiculous that it is pretty outrageous that Oberoi do not make customers aware of this and still charge a full rate.
If you are going to stay here make sure you do not stay on the south side of the complex and be prepared for at least one night in the week were it will seem you staying in Ibiza!

My wife and I stayed at the Oberoi in Seminyak for 7 nights in August 2009. It was our first time in Bali, but in the past we had a number of holidays in the Indian Ocean (Maldives, Seychelles and Zanzibar), Thailand, Mexico... and, if you want or not, you still compare all those places... I am using TripAdvisor as my 'travel bible' and, after many hours spent reading reviews, I try to get realistic expectations about the hotel and resort.

To summarise, Oberoi in Bali exceeded my expectations and I would recommend it to anybody as good value (if you are prepared to eat/drink outside the hotel as well).

The hotel is in a quiet area of Seminyak about 30 minutes drive from the airport. It is in an older style hotel, but villas are very modern. We had a Lanai Graden Villa near the spa which was great - large room, very nice bathroom, lots of storage space and very, very clean. Couldn't be better for what we paid (there are hotels in Bali that are much more expensive). The hotel gardens are superb and well maintained. Swimming pool is old style, but clean with lots of beach chairs and umbrellas. And service is great - you get towels, free water, suncream and a waterspray to cool down.
The beach in front of the hotel is a public beach - meaning anybody can walk there (and that includes some beach sellers - they are not a problem - and some stray dogs - again no problem at all). The sunset is spectacular.

We stayed all the time by the large pool, but went into the sea when the waves weren't very high. It is usualy windy and there are waves - sea is not great for swimming, but it is nice to go into the ocean for a laugh. It is paradise for surfers.
The bar and restaurants are nice, but very expensive as mentioned in other reviews. If you eat/drink all the time in the hotel, it will be an expensive holiday. But if you are prepared to walk 5-10 minutes into Seminyak, there are a high number of restaurants and bars that are much cheaper and food is reasonable (my stomach is quite sensitive and I didn't have a problem, I think the average restaurant in Bali is cleaner than the average restaurant in the UK).

If you want to do trips, there is a lot to chose - you can hire a car with driver for a day for 85 US dollars and visit temples and see spectacular terraced rice fields. The best trip we did was a cycling tour down Mount Batur - really recommended, most of the cycling is downhill and relatively easy and you see the locals, villages, temples, nature...

All staff at Oberoi is excellent and they have a policy asking tourists not to give tips to staff directly (a 10% service charge is added to all the bills) - I think it is a great policy (unlike other resorts where they add 10% to everyhting as well, but all staff members expect tips and even ask for them).

Overall, we were very happy with our Bali holiday and with Oberoi Seminyak!
