“a hidden gem”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 29, 2013

Only came across this place when we were wandering down to Chill on Jalan kunti
We had a lunch there and it was really tasty. I had babi gulung burittos. The serving was huge, and it came with 2 sides of salsa which was just spicy enough, as well as rice and refried beans. The other half had crispy chicken tacos, he said they werent as great as he hoped but to me they were fine! Definitely would eat here again, maybe not for dinner with kids as it is only quite small and menu not really suitable for young children

“Nice Nachos”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 28, 2013

Very nice nachos - we went back twice. They came with the wonderful salsas. Aldo had the Baby Guling Buritto - also nice - if not a little dry.

“Bali meets Baja. Real Mex, gluten free!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 27, 2013

Not your usual Taco Bell cheese and sour cream Tex-Mex eatery which explains som of the "Average" reviews from bogans who've never eaten South of the Border. Take it from a couple who spent a month surfing around Baja - this is REAL Mexican food. Proper tacos, homemade salsa and not a grain of rice in sight. It's a perfect joint for a quick smash-and-grab dinner and then back to the villa for some dodgy cam-job DVDs. Cheap, fast and street frontage make it even more accessible. The gluten-free apple pie (really an apple & cinnamon taquito) was brilliant. It's small inside so a booking during peak season is recommended.

Thanks for your great review. I agree with you on all your points, especially the dodgy cam-job dvds...LOL.

You're absolutely right about the gluten-free deep fried apple pie, it is an apple pie taquito, though we add a thick layer of homemade caramel creme inside - not the the store bought artificial stuff. And our style is most def Baja, as I spent years fishing, eating and studying cooking all the way from Tijuana to Cabo San Lucas.

We do, however, use rice, but instead of using white rice as a cheap filler to bulk up the product, it is a flavor and texture component that we try to use judiciously. Each item in a taco or burrito, etc., should have a reason for being there. Our triple-cooked red Spanish recipe takes hours to prepare (we make it 3x a day), uses 9 different herbs and spices, so it has its own unique flavor characteristics that make it useful to contrast and complement the other components in our dishes.

Lastly, a million thanks for the defense about those mysterious bad reviews that pop up occasionally from people without first-hand experience of true Mexican food in Mexico.

Come back, and next time introduce yourself please. And on behalf of all the staff, please have a sunny, five-star day in every way!!

Best,

“Yummiest tacos in town!”

We went for dinner on a Sunday night. We ordered way too much food but we ate it all because it was so good. Wish we had more days left in bali to visit again!
