“Great to feel part of the family......”
Reviewed July 7, 2010

Teka-Teki is a home-stay and that's one of the reasons we chose it . We had both rooms for over a week and for the price we paid were extremely pleased with how pleasant our stay was. Everyone was so welcoming - it really felt like we were staying with friends.

At around $37 a night Teka-Teki is value+++, very clean, quiet and central to Seminyak. Downstairs is air-conditioned, upstairs is not - however it has a good fan. Even with the remains of a head-cold and 33 degree, humid nights it was very comfortable. The only slight 'bother' I found was the quite steep staircase to the upstairs bedroom - think Led Zeppelin - but then that's my old squash-players knees!

As far as hoteliers go, you couldn't do much better than Jules who is honest and upfront, friendly and very helpful (don't know how you put up with our thousands of first-time Bali visitors questions, Jules!) And do have breakfast at 'home' in the garden - fruit and juice fresh from the market each morning prepared by Putu and Kedak who do a great job around the house (and I STILL miss your banana pancakes).

All in all, I would recommend it as a value-for-money, low-cost B&B.

P.S. Bali does have a lot of dogs which may be daunting for some. The road home at night appears to be very safe but is unlit (torches are available in the hotel). The household dogs Dian and Louis are quiet friendly, the street dogs barked on passing - but that's about as far as it got, and even the Doberman down the street was just a great big softy!

Teka Teki house wasnt the most attractive place, a bit of a muddy garden and dated outside. However, for what it lacked in style it made up for in service.

Pro's:

- Jules the owner - who i didnt get to see that much, was sincerely the most helpful person.
- 2 dogs were wonderful, and extremely friendly.
- Bed in the upstairs room was sensationally comfortable.
- They rented us a moped
- Staff were very friendly
- Shared shower and bathroom had hot water and plenty of space.
- No aircon but fans were more than enough!

Con's
- Bathroom could have done with a bit more attention in design and a clean, but thats partially me being picky.
- the steps up to the top bedroom are a hazard if you have been out drinking and need the toilet in the night, although the light is always on, so youd be a fool to fall down them. Wouldnt advise staying in that room if you have any trouble physically with steep steps.
- No real relaxation facilities - ie. Lounge or pool.
- Breakfast wasnt the best.

If however you want something similar to Teka Teki and you want to sacrifice the comfort of the bedroom for style - Jules' friend Vanessa down the road has started renting a room. The house is beyond devine, if it was in London i would buy it. The bed wasnt uncomfortable but the bedding wasnt as good as teka teki.
The bathroom and all the design elements were superb.

I stayed here only one night before my flight back from Bali. This is a very small and pretty place, well hidden, but only a few minutes walk to the main street of Seminyak. Super-friendly, no-nonsense owners who arranged my transport to the airport and even got up when I had to leave at 5 in the morning to say good-bye. The only negative I can think of is the neighbours' dogs (not those of the house) which barked a lot at night. Would definitely stay here again though.

This B&B is so warm and cozy. The staff are helpful, polite, and funny. The ambiance of the house is also a delight. The crew makes a slamming breakfast, and they have all the contacts in the world should you choose to visit Ubud or another attraction. Close to beach, restaurants, internet, bars, and shops but in private remote area which makes you feel at peace and ease at night. Great stay!! Thank you tripadvisor comments because that is what convinced me to stay there. Maybe I might pay it forward for someone else!!! The only thing it lacks are private bathrooms. Nonetheless, for the price, THIS IS A STEAL!!!!!!!!!

An affordable alternative to all the overpriced options in Seminyak, Teka Teki is a gem. The rooms are clean. The owners are helpful and a delight to chat to. It's close to everything you need to be close to, shops, restaurants etc.

We stayed in the Legong room at Teka-Teki House for three nights in April 2010. We found the room, private veranda, friendly staff and our generous hosts absolutely enchanting. Unlike the busyness of a backpackers or the sterility of an upscale hotel, Jules and Ketut have created an intimate and informal bed & breakfast that feels like you are staying with family or friends. They offered us fantastic recommendations for restaurants and activities and Ketut helped us sort out a great deal for our motorbike rental.
My boyfriend had an amazing experience in Bali learning the local waves under the guidance of Ketut who is a talented, experienced surf instructor. He offers one on one lessons, unlike the big groups you find at the surf schools.
Two lovely local women look after your every need and whip up the most amazing Indonesian breakfasts each day. The banana pancakes are to die for and the Nasi Goreng is the BEST we had in Bali.
We would recommend the Teka Teki House to anyone wanting an authentic, intimate, and unforgettable stay in Seminyak.

My first trip to Bali was hassle free as a result of the kind services provided by Jules , Ketut and their team. The use of the pool at Golden Villas was an added bonus. Transfers from and to the airport were very welcome and strongly recommended. The driver thereafter took me all over the island for very reasonable rates. The shopping within walking distance was wonderful. Likewise the restaurants and entertainment. I felt like a resident rather than a visitor.Made lots of new friends around the neighborhood, Could not have been made to feel more welcome. Nice to escape the usual tourist bubble. Love these people. Abdulrauf (Flagstaff House, Muscat, Sultanate of Oman)
