The new rage in bali are the beach clubs with the position on beaches and DJ's but when you stay here you dont need to go to any of those other restaurants. Great position, rooms, food, prices, music and staff.

Maybe i didn't do my homework on this place but it was definitely not what i was expecting when i arrived. My husband and i stayed at the W for four nights in December and i wish we had chosen a smaller, quieter resort. That said, it did grow on me during our stay.

I'll start with the good stuff:
The design of the resort is beautiful and the rooms are great with wonderful bathrooms. We had an ocean facing retreat with a huge bath tub and rain shower that opened up to a skylight. And our room was so close to the ocean (Room 428) that we could literaly hear the waves of the ocean crashing at night which was amazing.

The pool is really nice - the water temperature was perfect and there are plenty of chairs even when the resort is quite busy.

The food at the resort is quite good - and unlike many "American" hotels had good, local Indonesian food (although it's a fortune compared to what you'd pay outside the resort - and i mean a fortune).

The happy hour M-Th with 2 for 1 drinks is a good deal and was a lot of fun, with a DJ every night and a lively night scene (although there were quite a lot of kids at the resort).

Now for the not so good:
There's no swim up bar at the pool and getting a server in or around the pool was nearly impossible. Unless there's a law against swim up bars why on earth wouldn't the hotel have one? And if you're not going to have one shouldn't you at least have servers who you can find?

The service overall was appaling. The people were extremely nice if you could find one but finding one was impossible. It was the week after New Years so the resort was busy but it would take 15 minutes just to get a beer and that was after 15 minutes of trying to find a server (particularly bad at happy hour when the bar is busiest)

Even through i read on trip advisor that on December 27th a platinum SPG member said they were upgraded to a villa i was told upon arrival that there is no way to get upgraded to a villa - that they're managed by a seperate company. I didn't expect the upgrade but either the person who wrote the trip advisor review lied or the hotel was full of it... either way, i wouldn't expect the upgrade.

Overall, the hotel is very nice - but it's also very large and very busy and there were a lot of kids which i had not expected. If you're looking for a quiet, relaxing vacation at a resort in Seminyak this may not be the place for you. If you're looking for lively happy hours, and have a lot of patience i'd recommend the W.

Room Tip: Room 428 was a great ocean facing retreat at the far end of the hallway, well away from the elevators, and close enough to the ocean you could hear the waves crashing with the patio door shut and the air on.

Hello jrptravels,

We appreciate you taking the time to post your review. Understand that your expectations were different, but delighted to hear that there highlights during your holiday. To mention, during our peak periods, we do get a higher percentage of families.

I will be sure to raise your service issues with our Beverage & Food Director. Our WET (pool) area is definitely a highlight and we pride ourselves on providing first rate service.

We do hope that when you return to Bali, you pass by for our Sunset Happy Hour.

All the best,
Craig Seaward

We had a great stay at the W Bali, really enjoyed our time here and the nice pool. This was my 3rd trip to Bali and I was using free night certificates, as an SPG Platinum I have stayed at many of their different hotels and the W made sure we had a nice get away. As others have said the rooms were nice especially the ocean views and among W hotels one of SPG's better properties but they lack anything to connect you with this magical island

On check in I can say that we found the room to be a bit dirty and construction quality less than 5 star, room was nice but had a hurried, cheap feel, Attention to detail was certainly lacking at the W especially with house keeping. Lobby facilities were certainly our favorite, especially the food and bars poolside but be prepared for resort pricing.

Location is pretty far from everything and not all the Taxi's know the location of the hotel so keep the phone number handy. As for the beach, Seminyak just like Kuta is pretty dirty, the best beaches are still on Nusa Dua if you are staying on the south end of the island.

Prices are high compared with what you can get outside but that is to be expected. I would recommend this hotel if you like what W offers around the world or if you have been to Bali before but if it is your first trip, one can certainly do better on this amazing island their first time around to get a more authentic feel.

Room Tip: Get something facing the ocean.

Hello GoingGlobal79,

Thank you for taking the time to write a review. As with all W’s we put our twist on the destination resulting in a contemporary interpretation on the locale. I think that you will find that at W Bali, the Balinese belief of “skala niskala”, seen & unseen, is peppered throughout the Retreat, revealing itself at every corner. Our Talent are the epitome of sharing the Balinese hospitality.

In regards to the housekeeping, I will be sure to share your feedback with the Team.

You also mention the location; if it is only the distance from the main road that you speak of, we do provide buggies to transport you to and from Jalan Petitenget. Once there, the most happening areas in Bali are actually quite convenient. If you are taking day trips around the island, I think you will find that we are also centrally located between Ubud, Uluwatu & Nusa Dua.

We do hope we get a chance to welcome you back and if there are any other concerns you would like to mention, please feel free to contact me directly: gm.craig.seaward@whotels.com.

All the best,
Craig Seaward

We spent a whole week at W Bali and we would easily have spent a month there

The rooms are super trendy, very clean, the spa is simply amazing and the pool is unique to itself. The New Year's Eve party was something to remember as well.

The airport transfer service is very efficient and I hardly recommend it to anyone arriving by plane. The security at the front makes it feel a very safe place as well.

The concierge service was also very efficient to recommend activities. One member of my family had to go to the hospital and they arranged everything, when we arrived there the doctor was waiting for us and had already been briefed my the hotel medical staff.

Finally, Starfish Bloo restaurant was a great experience and the Chef, Jack Yoss, was probably the friendliest guy we met during our whole trip.

We had great vacations and we highly recommend this place to anyone

Hello Louis,

Thank you for posting your review. It sounds like you were able to get the full W Bali Experience in the one week that you were here. We appreciate you pointing out the many highlights of the Retreat.

We are delighted that you were able to spend our first New Year’s Eve with us. It was a fantastic event and we hope to exceed our celebrations for our First Anniversary Party the first weekend in March. Maybe you can return then!

Whenever you do decide to return, we look forward to welcoming you back.

All the best,
Craig Seaward

You cant expect a Balinese decoration here. Everything is so modern, art deco and cozy. Love the beach and the swimming pool, where we can watch the sun set. The breakfast was great and so was the service. Kudos!

Room Tip: Pool view would be nicer.
