Visited Ultimo one of the first nights we were in Seminyak and enjoyed the place so much we went back the night after!!

The food was well cooked, full of flavour and well priced. The only issue we had was portion sizes, some of us had starters that were bigger than our main courses and this resulted in some of us not being able to finish our mains nor squeeze a pudding in:-(
I think Ultimo should maybe keep starters at usual starter size and mains at usual main size to save any confusion and allow customers to order exactly what they want without anything being wasted.

There is usually a bit of a wait for tables so i would recommend booking as this was much easier as we just turned up and were seated pretty much straight away. Also if you are a non smoker you may want to request a table away from the area around the bar as it can get quite smokey and quite unpleasant if you are trying to eat.

Would recommend visiting if you are in Seminyak as this place has something for everyone on the menu and i doubt you will leave dissapointed.

Tried Ultimo last night. As always the place was packed but having made no reservation we only had to wait 10 minutes for a table. Service was excellent and the food came in good time despite it being so busy.

We only had main courses and when the food arrived we were glad we had not had starters. Portion sizes were large. Our party had the seafood pasta, bolognese calzone and steamed red snapper. Both the pasta and calzone were excellent whilst the fish was disappointingly overlooked. Overlooked fish seems to be a Balinese trait as we have yet to find a restaurant here who do not overlook it.

The atmosphere was good and the wait staff friendly. However, we were seated in the main restaurant and it was uncomfortably hot. It is not pleasant to be perspiring while eating dinner. Maybe this is a deliberate restaurant policy - the place is so busy maybe they want to turn the tables quickly rather than encourage diners to stay and relax. Or maybe the place just needs more air con. Either way it is very uncomfortable and how the kitchen staff survive with the heat from cooking is amazing.

Thus all in all not the worst experience, certainly far superior food and service to Rumours next door for a similar price but take a tip and ask for a table in the garden at the back which is much cooler.

+ good garden area, very nice lighting at night
+ main course and starters were good, but the portions were a bit small in comparison with other restaurants (namely The Junction). Caprese was literally one piece of cheese and three slices of tomato. Really, try The Junction and you will see the difference. Nevertheless, insalata di pollo and minestrone were great, and the bread basket was nice.
+ live music on weekends
+ attentive staff, good English, no chatting with each other, always with a smile

- gelato is not really a gelato (meaning the REAL italian ice-cream, like in Gusto Caffe), not so good. Pannacotta was also mediocre. Fruit platter consisted of watermelon (not too sweet), honeydew (inedible) and pineapple. No mango, no papaya (although it's the season).

This place is really popular and always VERY crowded. Book a table two or three days in advance, if it's weekend. Prices are very reasonable, for example they charge 150K for set menu (starter, salad, steak and dessert) - seems not too expensive, Our dinner for two cost us 35$, including cocktails. They also have a nice selection of wine, so that may be a more expensive dinner, though.

This was our third time at the restaurant over 3 visits to Bali in 4 years. Each time we have have not been disappointed - the meals have been fantastic and are resonably priced. Armed with prior knowledge my partner ordered 2 starters, one as a main so she could fit in the Creme Brulee (a personal favourite).
Consistently good food & attentive service keeps us going back.
It does get busy - so book to avoid missing out.
