we were invited to join a wedding party for the weekend at Val Du Charron, I'd never heard of it, as a matter of fact Wellington was never a destination I'd given much thought to, We decided to do the scenic route via Baine's kloof, this in itself is quite an experience and one everybody should do, especially on a beautiful day. Val Du Charron impresses, well appointed double and family rooms, I think there're 8 in all, with magnificent views overlooking vineyards and mountains. Our room was spacious and fairly large by today's standards. The shower room is small but not uncomfortable. Breakfast was good, wholesome fare. We enjoyed a light lunch which was a tad dissapointing, we decided on the tempura prawns, too doughy, we opted for a local red to accompany our meal which was delicious. The wine list is limited (the vineyards are only just coming into production). The owner joined us for drinks on Friday evening, he's charming and very enthusiastic, nice guy! I would gladly recommend this as a good destination, I'd like to go back in the autumn to do some photography and do a little exploring too. A great discovery. on the negative side though I thought our lunch was over-priced, I'm sure one could do a little exploring and find nice eateries nearby. The staff are all friendly, helpful, enthusiastic and willing to please.
