“Winter special is just perfect for a warm getaway”
Reviewed June 24, 2013

We had the winter special (one night, tea, dinner and breakfast, wine tasting). It was a fantastic way to just relax in the cold weather for a weekend. The hospitality is what really what stands out. We received personal attention from the hosts and it feels like they are welcoming you into their home. We had the Jasmine room, which is very spacious and it was great to just watch a DVD from their collection, or just TV, while snuggled up in bed. The food was excellent with a lovely home-made feel, and the eating area is really beautiful, with a roaring fire.

We needed a getaway on one of the coldest weekends of the year and for those who want a weekend away in cold weather, when hiking, walking or being outside in general is out, and just want a warm, cosy getaway with a homely feel, this winter special is ideal. It was perfect for us and we will definitely be back. If the weather is good, so much the better, and there are lovely areas to relax outside and their winery nearby for wine tasting or shopping.

Room Tip: The Jasmine room is the only one with a bath I believe, and it is a really big one, so for couples w...

The room was wonderfully appointed, underfloor heating in the bathroom and bedroom. There was a king-size bed, 2 couches and other detailed touches. The best of all was the dining room! The kitchen is open plan with the dining room where there is a large fireplace for those cold winter evenings. A simple but tasty 3 course dinner with culinary touches and their own wines made for a romantic dinner. The breakfast was also adequately supplied with all the regular items as well as a full cooked breakfast. The english couple that own/run the establishment made a personal appearance to add to the relaxed atmosphere. We were there on a winter special which was really worth it.

Room Tip: North facing rooms are best in winter

Wonderful views, silence, lovely touches in our room, friendly staff, home baked cake on the terrace all combine to make me very happy as I write this review. We found this place by accident and it is the best accident this holiday so far. Run by an English couple with a lovely eye for detail, they converted stables into beautiful rooms each with private terrace and garden. This is not somewhere I would bring the kids but as an get a way treat it is stunning.

We stayed here for 3 nights in the Honeysuckle room, which was delightful, prettily decorated and fitted out, with a four poster bed and mosquito net, and a good bathroom with lovely toiletries. We had a little patio to the front of the room, which was lovely to sit on with a glass or two of wine, the main house was a gorgeous thatched building, with spacious airy dining room, and a wide shaded terrace, where we took all our meals. The breakfasts were great, and the evening meals that we had were simple, and very tasty, and were accompanied by the house Dunstone wines....quite delicious. A lovely swimming pool and extremely comfy loungers was a great way to spend an afternoon! We had lunch one day at the Stone Kitchen, part of the estate, and that is a short walk from the main house and food was delicious and as it's name implies the building was beautifully constructed out of stone. A wonderful place, convenient for many good vineyards and the nerve-wracking BainesKloof Pass which Is a drive that has to be done!! Abbi and Mariska were extremely hospitable as were all the staff, and we had a lovely stay.

This was one of the best b&b experiences I've had. We stayed here for a wedding at Tanglewood, and which happened to be a 5 minute slow amble away. We stayed in the lavender room, which had a lovely decor, 4 poster bed with mosquito netting, and a picture perfect view of the mountains and vinyards over a lavender garden. There really isn't much to do close by, but there are a few walks to go on. They do a free wine tasting in the afternoon, and even though we were late they still let us enjoy a glass. The pool and view were seonf to none. The staff were minimal but it didn't effect the service quality. Food was pretty good, although we only had breakfast. Overall, Highly recommended!

Room Tip: The Lavender was lovely!

We have just stayed for the 5th time and it is as good as ever. The rooms are very comfortable and have wonderful views. The grounds are lovely and you can spend your days lazing by the pool, or out seeing the sights. Breakfast is served outside when the weather is suitable and so is dinner which you have to book in advance and the food is excellent. There are also some good restaurants close by for dinner. Mariska, the manager, and all the staff are extremely friendly and make you feel at home. Anyone visiting the Wellington area should stay at Bovlei. We will definitely return.

Room Tip: The Lavender Room and Iris Room both have their own sunbeds outside the room overlooking the lavende...

This was the 2nd stay at Bovlei and we were not disappointed. It is a great place to relax and chill out.
We stayed in the Lavender room again which has amazing views across the valley over the lavender garden area.
Breakfast is very tasty and plentiful.
Mariska (the manager) is very friendly and excellent at her job - nothing is too much trouble. Afternoon tea is a little bonus but still not sure about putting grated cheese on top of jam on scones - its an african thing!
Great evening meal was served - lamb chops were cooked 'how you like them' - just remember to request a meal before you arrive (24hrs notice needed). The light salad we asked for when we arrived was great and then washed down with some farm wine - what more does one need!!
We will be back !!!!!

Room Tip: Lavender room is very quiet and private - as long as you dont book it when we want to come!
