“Utterly superb !”

The Braeside is an absolute gem ! A beautiful Edwardian Dutch style house in gorgeous gardens set on a hill on the outskirts of Swellendam. We arrived in the early evening to the warmest of welcomes from the delightful owner Fiona. Our beautiful room and complimentary glass of wine made us realise this was indeed somewhere very special.

Breakfast on the verandah the following morning was a delight. We were very sorry indeed to leave !

Stay as long as you can - the Braeside is a jewel in South Africa's crown !

Beautiful house, lovely surroundings, within walking distance of local restaurants and the few sights Swellendam has to offer. Great breakfast and Fiona is very kind and caring and provided tea and biscuits in the afternoon to keep the sugar levels ticking over ;-) Complimentary pre-dinner drinks and in general a very warm and welcoming atmosphere. Highly recommend it as a place to stay.

This is a great Guesthouse. Kept ist old historical charm sorrounded by a beautiful garden.Fiona was so helpful and looked after us very well .She Served a great fresh breakfast on the terrace. Nice to stay in a house which gives you the homely feeling off the highway and with a fantastic view over the mountains. With personal Guesthouses like this, there is no space for hotels or chick little boutique places.
If one thing to possibly improve....WiFi accessability .

Braeside is a beautiful property with a lovely garden and small swimming pool. Fiona is a very conscientious host who works hard to ensure her guests are comfortable and enjoy their stay. You can help yourself to pre-dinner drinks before walking down to nearby restaurants (Try The Connection for wonderful home cooked food).

We had the Africa room which is one of the smaller rooms with a small bathroom. The bed was very comfortable and the room had a fridge, tea/coffee making facilities, biscuits and fruit. French doors opened onto a sitting out area. Breakfast is served on the terrace weather permitting and there is a large choice including a cooked option. The guest house is a short walk from the main street which has a good selection of shops.

Room Tip: Try and get one of the larger rooms which also had bigger bathrooms.

Our second visit and we are already planning our third. Fiona is "simply the best". A perfect host in all respects.
Wonderful accommodation and setting. Best breakfasts in South Africa. So special and lovingly presented. The breakfast on the terrace in the most perfect setting.
I cannot believe that we will find a better b and b to stay in S.Africa.
Swellendam in a really good area to stay. Wonderful restaurants reccommended by Fiona and great walks in the mountains.

We recently spent one night in Swellendam whilst touring the Garden Route/Cape Town area and stayed in a number of hotels and guest houses. Without reservation, I can state that Braeside was comfortably the best of the bunch.

Fiona is a superb host and clearly takes great pride in her business. From the moment we arrived, she went out of her way to be helpful and left us both wishing that we could stay for longer.
