We recently spent one night in Swellendam whilst touring the Garden Route/Cape Town area and stayed in a number of hotels and guest houses. Without reservation, I can state that Braeside was comfortably the best of the bunch.

Fiona is a superb host and clearly takes great pride in her business. From the moment we arrived, she went out of her way to be helpful and left us both wishing that we could stay for longer.

This mansion that was built in 1901 is located in a very quiet residential area and with a nice big garden. Rooms are spacious and stylish decorated with a nice sense of the past. Our host Fiona prepares a perfect breakfast and combined with her wonderful sense of humor it was a good start of the day. Pool just good enough to cool off but not needed as Fiona sent us out to visit some nice trips to the beautifull beaches at Arniston and Cape Agulhas. Considered as a whole we had an excellent stay.

It is nicely situated in Swellndam with a lot of restaurants nearby within walking distance. The room is very comfortable, clean, cosy and the house is beautyful. In the room are coffee and tea facilities with fruit and cookies and a fridge.
Moreover you can enjoy the terrace with a nice glas of wine, port or sherry (on the house).
Fiona is a wonderful host and she prepares a lovely breakfast.
One should book directly with the guesthouse because this is better for the guesthouse :-).
Nearby is The Bontebok National Park where you can go for a nice walk.

A lovely property a short distance uphill from the main street and safe to walk to and from even at night. The large gardens are beautiful and the freshly cooked breakfast is taken on the large veranda overlooking them with lovely music in the background......very civilised!! Our room and bathroom were large, spotless and had everything you needed, including a fridge, tea / coffee facilities, complimentary beer and extra towels for the pool. Complimentary sherry and wine were also provided in the guest lounge. Our host, Fiona, is a lovely, helpful lady, she really was the cherry on the icing!!

We were a party of 5 adults (parents, 2 grown-up daughters and the boyfriend of one of them) and our stay was a one-night stop at the start of the Garden Route. Swellendam was the perfect stopping point and this was a lovely guest house. Clean, comfortable, beautiful views, free wifi, fresh lilies everywhere. The breakfast was amazing, beautifully laid out on the veranda, with relaxing music playing in the background and a huge variety of everything you could wish for. Highly recommended.
