“A gem”
Reviewed November 27, 2011

We saw the photo's on the website but what it can't depict is the the amount of space there is. Bloom is a real gem, from the layout, design and style. The views of the mountains are lovely along with the lavender beds swimming pool, nod and the hidden jacuzzi which sadly we didn't find time to use. We stayed 3 nights and could have easily managed to spend a few more if we had time to spare, unfortunately not. The bedrooms were very spacious with lovely bathrooms the bloom products in the bathroom were a nice touch too. We utilised the use of the in room DVD and got takeaway pizza 1 night for a change which was good as we were travelling with friends. Maartan had organised a dinner reservation for us on arrival ( which we were undergo obligation to go to) which proved to be a great choice. La Sosta restaurant again another recommendation was a delightful meal. The breakfasts at Bloom were great, such a choice. The fresh fruit was delicious along with the yoghurt, plenty of continental meats and cheese and the list goes. My husband and friend said it was the best coffee of the holiday too! Maarten and Carla are great hosts giving advice where needed and recommending places to visit and most importantly good wineries to stop at.

After a scenic drive from Stellenbosch, Bloomestate was the ideal destination. Carla and Maarten have created something very special (and quite unexpected) in a fantastic location. Firstly, when we arrived they had already made our restaurant bookings for the first and second nights (anticipating that we might struggle to get tables at the last minute). That set the standard for our three night stay. The bedrooms are exactly as you see on their website - incredibly stylish and all your needs have been thought of down to i-pod docking station and DVD player (complete with a current selection of DVDs which can be borrowed from the lounge). I should make particular mention of the bathrooms - the huge walk-in shower and big bathtub. The breakfasts were a real highlight - from the full cooked breakfast down to the selection of freshly baked breads and croissants together with cheeses, cold meats, salmon etc. Where to stop...? We stayed at Bloomestate with two friends and I think what struck me most was the incredible sense of space and how tranquil the location is. Maarten and Carla take their role as hosts very seriously. We simply couldn't fault any aspect of our stay at Bloomestate. If you haven't thought of adding Swellendam to your western Cape itinerary, then Bloomestate is a perfect reason to change that.

As soon as you drive through the gate into the beautiful yard, with lots of flowers and trees,
you feel at home. The hosts Carla and Marteen welcome you in a very relaxed and friendly manner. They always have time for a talk, joke or restaurant recommendation. We had two beautiful rooms closed to the pool and the lavender fields. The small but excellent breakfast is a real experience. The hot breakfast comes beautifully arranged and decorated on unusual plates. In the lounge there are a coffee machine and tea making facilities rusks and fruits, lots of books and DVD’s you can choose to play them on your DVD player in the room.
The Jacuzzi, beautifully hidden in the garden, is a “must try”.
After drives on gravel roads our car was quite dusty, but there are fairies that washed him
during the night.

Cheers Carla and Marteen, we’ll be back.

You will fall in love with Bloomestate and you would like to spend a lot more time there, like the rest of for life, for better or worse....
We stayed at the newly renovated Red Cloud Room, very nicely decorated, like the rest of Bloomestate, cubic cool and colourful chic (like it says on the Bloomestate website), great bed, very spacious bathroom with bath and walk-in shower and with some very romantic details, great for a honeymoon, but also nice after a marriage of 25 years.
Had the best breakfast of our trip in South Africa there, nice looking and very tasty boiled eggs, and a lovely view on the garden with Sunbirds flying of and on to the bottle filled with sugar water hanging in the tree in front of the window. The swimming pool also has a stunning view on the Langeberg mountains.
Carla and Maarten, our very hospitable hosts, also arranged for us an unforgettable sightseeing flight from Swellengrebel Airport, over Swellendam, Cape Agulhas(the most southern Ppoint of Africa) along the coast, we saw the dolphins jumping, over the endless grain fields, really incredibly!

After the safari’s in both Kruger and Botswana we flew to George and went by car to Cape Town.
In Swellendam we stayed for several days in Bloomestate, runned by a Dutch couple Carla & Maarten.
Very warm and friendly people on a beautiful estate in a nice surrounding area next by the N2.

Breakfast will be served to your wishes with a nice garden view.
The lounge looks very nice as well, you can find here a lot of books, dvd’s and a good filled bar.

The rooms are very nice, spacious, trendy and has everything you need + more.
Also the bathroom was very spacious with a big walk-in shower and a separate bath.
The big garden, swimming pool and Jacuzzi makes it complete on this private and quiet premises.

This is a must go if you have plans to stay in Swellendam and want to relax some days during your holiday.
Carla & Maarten will do everything to make your stay excellent.
In our opinion you won’t regret it, won’t forget it and will enjoy it.

We wish you and your staff all the best,
With love,

Addy & Sandra.

Room Tip: All the rooms are very nice. We had the red one on the corner. Just renewed bathroom.
