George was accommodating and friendly and gave us some tips on what to do and where to go which was helpful. The braai was all set up for us in case we wanted to have a bbq. The views were quite beautiful out onto the cow farm next door and mountains beyond and the bed was comfy. We had booked several nights and decided to cut our stay short by two nights. Just a few things could have used some attention. The fridge was very loud so we unhooked it when we were in the cottage. The place was a bit dusty as well, but it's to be expected from the area, and it is just off a dirt road. It was good for a couple of nights, then we were ready to leave Swellendam and head back to the cape/coast.

George and his staff were very welcoming and helpful. The flatlet was clean and comfortable, although the ants in the kitchen were troublesome. We would have preferred a proper shower cubicle instead of a bath with handheld showerhead though. Swellendam is very beautiful and we really enjoyed our weekend there in the quiet country farm like atmosphere.

it is a lovely, quiet place with a beautiful view.
the house is in the country side, a short distance from Swellendam.
you can cook by yourself or visit a nice restaurant in the village.
in the nice garden you can lay in the sun or swim in the swimming pool.

After spending a day on the road escorting and assisting our charity cycling group from Mosselbay to Swellendam and facing many challenges, we were stuck in Swellendam – it was too late to go back to Cape Town as planned. We phoned a friend (Carla at Bloom Estate) but she was fully booked, but she gave us a name and number. We immediately phoned and our call was answered and within a few minutes we had a room (and a bed – which was what we really needed at that stage). We discovered that Arumvale was situated very close to where our cyclists were staying which was perfect.
But what a surprise awaited us on our arrival. Stunning views over the fields and mountains, great little braai (which we did not use), stunning room with all you need (including free WIFI!) and warm hospitality! This was absolutely all we needed after a long day of travelling and challenges. George made us feel right at home and quickly sorted us out with all the luggage, info we needed and was ready to see us off in the early hours of the next day.
The room itself is beautifully decorated with a little kitchen area and a microwave – it could easily sleep a two adults and one child (and I am now temped to book a weekend away for the family!).
To top it all – this was the least expensive accommodation of our trip – but by far the most wonderful stay!
Thank you George for saving our lives at a time needed! We will be back!

We stayed one night self catering in the "cottage" situated at the bottom of the garden of the main house,
This a small one room out building with a shower/toilet attached
The bed was excellent , the view of the hills in the morning with the doors open superb, however cooking facilities were slightly limited (one two ring camping gas stove) small fridge, tea and coffee
The room itself was small as we only stayed one night it was fine any longer and I would suggest something in the main house.
The location of the property is down a dirt track lane you need to look carefully for the signing to the property.

We stayed a night at the rustic cottage and it doesn't get more rustic than this(In a good way!).
George is an excellent host. He just spent around 15-20 mins with us at the start to show us whats what and it was very good precise information.
The cottage is like the description says on a farm literally and you have the beautiful swellendam mountains as a backdrop when you open your door and just a stones throw are grazing cows, pigs and pheasant fowls. The cottage is self catered and has all the basics so make sure you carry something to cook unless you intend on driving to the city which is around 5-10 mins away.
It was a little tough finding the place but george said he will be sorting that out shortly and hopefully.
Just a tip for the directions- Stay on the N2 and don't turn towards the city after crossing the city's turn it you will get a right turn for the farm areas where you will spot an Arumvale board. Else just call him!
We went hiking in the nearby hills in the morning. Be sure to carry mosquito repellant and hiking boots just in case.

Natasha & Anmol.

George was very welcoming when we arrived. We had one standard room in the main house and a cottage. Main house room was gorgeous and the cottage delightfully quirky. Both braais were set ready to use (the only place we stayed where this was the case). George's home design and build for the braai was brilliant, and we plan to try to replicate it here - just in case we ever get any decent weather for a braai/BBQ! He even gave us his thoughts on how it could be improved, but we have to say we thought it was wonderful. The views are amazing, even though our weather could have been better it was a beautiful place to stay.
