As retired folk, living in Swellendam, we celebrated our 2 years in this town by having an evening meal at Field & Fork.
Frankly this restaurant is usually our of our price range, but we decided to treat ourselves, and we had only eaten there once before.
We decided to have their current 'special', which was a choice of 3 starters, 3 mains, 3 desserts at a price of R185 per person. We took our own wine as their "special" also included no corkage charge on own wine.
All three courses were tasty, and well presented, and the serving staff were efficient and friendly.
A mild criticism I do have is that the owners/chef did not once enter the small dining area, in which very few customers were seated, to say hello, or to ask if everything was OK. Them doing so would have made the already very good dining experience even better, particularly in such a small town as Swellendam, and being out of the 'tourist' busy season.
I also do not like the automatic addition of a 10% service charge to the bill. I will happily give a gratuity of 10%, or normally more, for good food, which is well-presented, and for good service, but it is presumptuous for a restaurant to assume a customer has received this.
