At a loss for somewhere to eat in Swellendam, our B&B suggested we try Koornlands. Their recommendation was spot on. We both had soup - a bean-and-ham concoction that was really delicious - and filling. She had Karroo lamb, four chops grilled to perfection, skewered on a porcupine quill, served with creamy mashed potatoes and some roast greens veggies, and I had venison meat balls with pasta and a great sauce that helped bring out the flavour of the venison. A few glasses of excellent house wine, and we had no room for the delectable-looking puddings. The service was great, and the waitress knew her job and kept us amused as well as served. All in all, a quality meal in an unexpected venue.
