“Standards are slipping”
Reviewed April 1, 2013

This is my second review of Giovanni's and it is with regret that I have to change my review from excellent to average. Giovanni's was my families' favourite restaurant but standards are definitely slipping. We visited Giovanni's with family in January and were not impressed but thought that it was due to the holiday season. However, we went back 2 nights ago and were disappointed again. The reasons for this is as follows: Firstly our waiter: he was quite a bit older than the other waiters and very unfriendly and inefficient. We constantly had to ask for basic things like wine glasses, he got my son's drinks order wrong (he brought grapetiser instead of grape fanta), etc etc.
Secondly, two of us ordered the legendary Don Pizza with all the meats that you can think of on it. It came without fillet!!!! When we mentioned this our waiter just said it was supposed to have fillet and then did nothing about it.
Third, the other two of our party ordered the fantastic Mike's Special seafood pasta. The prawns were floury - which means they were frozen. This is unacceptable for a pasta that costs R95.
Fourth: There is no dessert menu - which is fine because normally the waiter tells you what is available. Not our waiter though. He left off most of the available desserts and we had to ask if the Chocolate Volcanos were available.
We really should have complained on the night, but then one's evening becomes so unpleasant and leaves a bad taste in your mouth.
We are very disappointed that our favourite restaurant now leaves a lot to be disired. When one is left with a bill of R800 at the end of an average dining experience, one will think twice before doing it again. Such a pity!!!

“Yum! Again!”
Reviewed March 22, 2013

What a pleasure to return to a restaurant that impressed you massively the first time, and not be disappointed the second. An awesome restaurant that's consistently good... what a find. The food was scrumptious and wholesome again, the service warm and attentive and the evening just generally wonderful. And impressive considering the famous Peter wasn't there this time but his staff were superb even in his absence. Can't wait to go back again!

“"Sorry sir we are fully booked!"”
Reviewed March 19, 2013

The worst thing to hear when going to your favourite restaurant is: "Sorry sir we are fully booked!" The next choice then is to be happy with the second best, and unfortunately the second best in Somerset West does not come close to Giovanni's in the Waterstone Village. So the third choice then is to book for the next evening.

As always just the best of everything. From the starter to the much-more-than-one-can-eat main course and the in-store baked cheese cake for dessert. Also the wine list offers just the best local wines to compliment the food. And then of course all the ladies go there to get a kiss from Peter, when arriving and leaving!

So next time when thinking of going to Giovanni's, rather book than settling for second best!

“MOUTHWATERING FOOD, GREAT SERVICE”
Reviewed March 19, 2013

The food at Giovanni's is by far the best food I have eaten in a very long time, which when combined with the great service makes for an unforgettable restaurant experience.
