Owner description: Vergelegen - no ordinary Estate. Founded on 1 February 1700, Vergelegen (meaning "situated far away"), has been under the ownership of some of the world's great explorers and visionaries, each of whom, in their own way, have helped shape Vergelegen to what it is today: a world-class Estate. With its world renowned handcrafted wines, history spanning over 300 years, heritage, exquisite gardens and refined cuisine, it comes as no surprise that Vergelegen continues to be the choice of the discerning visitor seeking a total sensory experience. For this reason, the Estate has borne witness to many visits of heads of state and celebrities from all over the world. Think of Vergelegen to spend quality time on your own, with your family and friends or business associates - wine tasting centre and cellar tours, Camphors at Vergelegen Signature Restaurant, Stables at Vergelegen Bistro Restaurant and the Picnic, are only a few of a myriad of enjoyable activities at Vergelegen. We invite you to experience the world of Vergelegen first-hand.

We visited Vergelegen for its historical interest as one of the oldest wine farms as well as for the purported current beauty and it exceeded expectations on all levels. The gardens are beautifully kept and you could spend ages meandering through them, the restaurants prepare excellent food and the old buildings and exhibits are fascinating in themselves. Outstanding presentation and knowledgeable assistants made this an unexpectedly delightful visit.

The grounds of this winery are awesome. They do a nice tea srvice and lunch. The bestter wines are behind the bar, not what they serve the masses. We took two bottles home of the four allowed us. Worth going.

The gardens and manor house here are really lovely: if you like English country gardens and woodland then you'll love it here.

We haven' tried the restaurant but afternoon tea was very good as was the wine tasting. Well worth a visit and can easily be combined with a visit to Laurensford just down the road.

We love going there to walk and look at the gardens, and old home. Beautiful, and peaceful, and there are a few walks around you can follow the map. Just fun, to be outside.

This is a 300 year old wine farm that has been magnificently restored. It features beautiful grounds that you could easily just hang out in all day. It has great wines, if a little on the pricey side. It also has a great restaurant, also a little pricey. If you can go in the summer they do a wonderful picnic in the woods - an experience not to be missed. You absolutely need reservations for the picnic
