Owner description: Vergelegen - no ordinary Estate. Founded on 1 February 1700, Vergelegen (meaning "situated far away"), has been under the ownership of some of the world's great explorers and visionaries, each of whom, in their own way, have helped shape Vergelegen to what it is today: a world-class Estate. With its world renowned handcrafted wines, history spanning over 300 years, heritage, exquisite gardens and refined cuisine, it comes as no surprise that Vergelegen continues to be the choice of the discerning visitor seeking a total sensory experience. For this reason, the Estate has borne witness to many visits of heads of state and celebrities from all over the world. Think of Vergelegen to spend quality time on your own, with your family and friends or business associates - wine tasting centre and cellar tours, Camphors at Vergelegen Signature Restaurant, Stables at Vergelegen Bistro Restaurant and the Picnic, are only a few of a myriad of enjoyable activities at Vergelegen. We invite you to experience the world of Vergelegen first-hand.

“TIME STOOD STILL HERE”

Enjoy the magnificent rose and herb gardens and the well kept buildings and if you choose the time rights, you could even attend a concert. Centuries old trees, a river and vineyards reminds of a time very long ago.

“Such a beautiful place. Making it more child friendly A+”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 6, 2012

A friend of our ours (local) recommended we go here for lunch and we were so glad she recommended it. It was beautiful, the gardens are lovely (even my husband who does not like gardening) wandered around for an hour in amazement admiring the gardens. He took a particular liking to the camphor trees which are amazing.
The east garden is currently under construction where they are building a maze and a kids playground to make the whole place a lot more child friendly. I think it is due for completion in November. It is right outside the restaurant so children can play while parents enjoy a lovely meal (food is outstanding - my risotto was the best I have ever had) and a superb glass of wine. Staff are fabulous tool
Please make sure you book if you are planning to go for lunch. The lovely staff were able to fit us in but it was a Tuesday (we were very lucky)

“Fascinating taste of Cape Homestead Life”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 29, 2012

We visited Vergelegen wine estate because its so famous and sells good wine in the UK. We were not disappointed. The estate charges to go in, which was a surprise, but its not much and worth it. The whole are is being developed and imporoved. Great parking, beautiful gardens and very interesting library and homestead. The Main house was a delight, fascinating. The guides were very helpful, and much of the internal decoration has been improved by loaned from various museums. All very in keeping with the period of the building. A real education and informative visit.Well worth making a detour for. The restaurant was attractive and helpful.... They didnt mind serving coffee at an odd time! Wine tasting very stylish but not uncomfortable.Good to know we can buy their wines in Uk
