We stayed for 3 nights. We choose Albourne in Somerset West for access to golf courses, and the wine area. What we didn't realise when we booked was what a good choice we made. Although we read travel guides extensively, we now feel this location is understated. The coastal drive from Somerset West to Betty's Bay was fantastic (our favourite and much better than Chapman's Peak). We went to many wine estates but none more beautiful than Vergelegen which is only a 5 minutes away. The wine was good too.
As for Albourne and her manager Mareaze, this was the most comfortable, cosy place we stayed. The welcome, the staff and the breakfast the best we had, and the service is just outstanding nothing is too much for Mareaze who runs this place with the flair and the professionalism that is amongst the best.

Room Tip: garden and pool suites are just amazing

My friends and I stayed 3 nights here in early February and only wished we'd had a month to stay! We truly did not want to leave...the atmosphere was so welcoming and gracious. Maurize and staff couldn't have done a better job of making us feel "at home"...from the lovely breakfast on the terrace, overlooking the gardens, to the spacious and comfortable rooms on the cool, shady courtyard. Nothing was left to chance...all was carefully "thought out". I can't wait to return!
..

Room Tip: Just let Maurize know your needs...she's so accommodating!

Excellent service in a stylish yet comfortable setting. A tranquil guest house, that is more like a boutique hotel near the golf courses, recently refurbished, we can wholehartedly recommend this place. A hidden treasure... This must be the best kept secret in the winelands!!!!

Room Tip: We like the rooms near the pool the best

My wife and I had an excellent stay in February 2013 in Albourne. It was the best place to end our incredible journey through the South of Africa. After the luxury retreats in Cape Grace at Waterfront and Le Quartier Francais in Franschhoek we wanted to have a nice and intimate Guesthouse to end our stay. Albourne gave that feeling right from the start. The place is warm, intimate, peaceful and ideally located. From the Guesthouse we could easily travel to the wine region, the sea, the golf course Erinvale (!) and was close to the airport. The Guesthouse is in a good state and has all the elements that makes this region so lovely. Design, nature and of course the hospitality. Thank you for an excellent closure of an unforgettable trip to South Africa.

Albourne Guesthouse in Somerset West is a stunning property perched on 6000 m2 overlooking the beautiful helderberg mountains. Beautifully decorated from the inside, by the new owners who will upgrade the place step by step. The old owners designed the property in such a way for each room to enjoy different views and features. Joop, the old owner (with his wife Trudy ) greeted us warmly on our arrival, and gave a tour of the beautiful property. They were kind enough to upgrade us to a room to a garden suite, and welcomed us with a drink and some cheese (hey, why not- we're on holiday!). The service was outstanding, breakfast absolutely perfect (they give you a menu to fill out with breakfast requests) which they will serve to you in the breakfast room, It is clear why this property is ranked one of the best by the locals in Somerset West - and long may it be so! We actually can not believe you find places like these in this world still. We loved the setting the new decor done by the new owners. Great people with great personality. We will definitely be coming back every year for our annual holiday and I am sure we will still stay the same as always . Keep up the good work and excellent service. Its great to see the place being upgraded to a standard that golfers love, and the service of taking the golf bags when we came back and cleaning our equipment is just fantastic. There are about 7 golf courses within 15-20 mins drive from the Guest House! An ideal stay for the leisure golfers under us.

I travel with my husband once every year to South Africa and alternate stays in the Winelands; sometimes Stellenbosch, Franschhoek but this year we decided to try Somerset West again. We stayed at Albourne a few years back when Joop and Trudy were still the owners and had fond memories. Now the place is in new hands and new is the correct word for a lot. The lounge: all new, the breakfast room: all new, the amenities in the rooms: all new, and all in extremely good taste. We love old classical buildings, but the inside should be 21st century. The thing that has remained the same was how welcome we felt, the sense of comfort and true value for money. The rooms are spacious, fresh and pleasing colours, small kitchenette so we would not have to go out every night for a dinner. Definitely a great place to use as a base to relax and go on some nice day trips. Can't wait to see what will be new next year!

Room Tip: Try to book a garden suite, they are the most spacious and so comfy
