Description: Founded in 1700, Lourensford Estate has married its historic heritage with a vision to be at the forefront of modern wine technology and a leader amongst South African Wine producers. Owner & Executive Chef, Bjorn Guido's cooking career started at The Greenhouse at Cellars-Hohenort under chef Peter Templehoff. He then moved abroad and joined Babington House, part of the SOHO HOUSE group under the renowned Ronnie Bonetti of River Cafe London. After gaining experience abroad, he returned home and took up the role of Head Chef at The Franschhoek Kitchen on the Holden Manz Wine Estate. Food provenance and sustainability are core to Millhouse's philosophy. The eatery's contemporary barn-conversion interior puts a modern twist on classic elements, featuring a mix of leather banquette seating and reclaimed timber walls. Bjorn's aim was to create a neighbourhood feel where guests can relax and enjoy each other's company. Watch as food is prepared in the expansive open kitchen and Italian style pizza's are delivered fresh from the wood fired oven.

“Sensational food!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 2, 2013 via mobile

We ordered three mains between the three adults, the prawn risotto, port braised veal pasta and the papa G's pizza. All were unbelievably flavoursome and we ended up sharing them all. Live music on the Friday we were there made it a casual but vibey. Our two small tkids were welcome and well looked after, even there food was delicious. All round great experience, I'll be back again.

“Fantastic celebration at The Millhouse”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 22, 2013

Yesterday I had the pleasure of hosting, together with my family, a lunch for 70 people to celebrate the 70th birthday of my Mom. The weather was perfect, and the lush garden setting, dramatic mountain backdrop, wonderfully cosy restaurant, excellent service and delicious food all conspired to create a magic day. Despite the fact that the entire local area was without power due to a fault on the power lines, the staff kept it together and managed to still produce delicious food and friendly smiling service. They deserve a medal!

We had a wonderful day and I can recommend this fine establishment unreservedly. Thank you to all of the wonderful staff who made our day so special. We will be back again soon. John

“surprise birthday party”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 22, 2013

My husband and children organised a surprise birthday lunch for me at The Millhouse Restaurant.
I had absolutely NO idea that this was going to happen! As we drove through the gate, I saw the sign saying that The Millhouse was fully booked, and thought thank goodness our table was booked! This was the best kept secret ! What a wonderful experience. The waiting staff were efficient and unobtrusive and the food fabulous. There was no electric power, but the show went on! Thank you for a memorable day. The small children had the time of their lives. Thank you so much!
Warm regards, Robin Searle

“Nice but no value for money”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 21, 2013

Nice scenery, nice atmosphere with great service but the food is slightly disappointing. Pizza is alright but nothing spectacular. The slow roasted duck was dry and missed seasoning. The white wines are very nice but their reds are young and misses smoothness. Compacted to the money you have to pay there the experience lacks in value.

“This is a really good family Restaurant”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 30, 2013

We are regulars because the food is always so good, well presented and tasty. The surrounds are very child freindly. Being child freindly means Mum and Dad can enjoy themselves too. Today was one of those days that just did not work for us. Our table had been given to someone else which was a surprise as they were only 4 and we were 7. The restaurant manager sorted it out and we sat down. After 20 minutes no one had been to the table .I found the manager who rectified the situation, we then wanted to order, another visit to the retaurant manager who organised it.After 2 hours now 3pm we still had not recieved our main course, yet another visit. One of our guests did not have a starter. In all this time we had no idea who our waiter should be because everytime a different person.During this period additional wine that was ordered did not arrive. Desserts and coffee happened as they should have done. You may wonder why we put up with it? Well the food is so good our one child was enjoying himself and we recognised that the person in charge of the restaurant as nice as he was was totally out of his depth. There was noone supervising. Having said that some of the staff have been there from opening and are very good, sadly we just did not get one them. The fault lies with the owners not the staff for not standing up for their resposibilities. No appologies given.
