To start, let me say that we were there for the wine tasting, not the restaurant. The restaurant looked very good, and upmarket, and I would love to try it sometime. Avontuur is unusual in that not only does it offer an array of very palatable wines, but it also boasts 5 and 10 year old Brandies. Moreover, it has a commendable Cap Classique sparkling wine on offer. In its cellar are several wines with a list of awards.
We arrived at 4:45, sure that we would be turned away as closing was at 5. But no, our charming hostess Harriet Pretorius welcomed us warmly and proceeded to spoil us with a generous tasting of no less than 7 wines and Brandies. It is people like her that do this Estate proud and make the Cape wine route the popular attraction it has become. Well done, and thank you. We loved Avontuur and highly recommend it!
