“FUN FUN FUN”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 5, 2013

Although I have not stayed at Afrovibe (as I live in the area). It is the best place to have a party if visiting Sedge. There is always a vibe and the bear pong ensures you will always have somthing to do. Party with locals and holiday makers alike at this fun, relaxed bar.

A soon as I arrived at the Afrivobe Lodge I felt at ease. The staff greeting me was very friendly and made sure throughout My stay that everything was satisfactorily.
The setting itself is beautiful and Sedgefield is a charming town on the lovely Garden Route.
Afrovibe has a lot of great adventures to offer!! But if you just want to chill there is a spectacular beach on your doorstep.
Don't miss this place if you travel along the Garden Route!!

The setting of Afrovibe is amazing, being a few meters from the beach, with amazing views from the rooms. The staff are friendly and the service good. The rooms are very neat and tidy, with basic furnishings.

This place far exceeded my expectations. I was on a Garden Route tour with Earthstompers and was not expecting such nice accommodations - this place is not your run of the mill hostel! My husband and I had a private en suite room facing the beach. It was clean, spacious and very sunny! It happened to also be right over the bar area, and the breezeway outside our room overlooked the fire pit, but since we were there on a weeknight the hostel had noise regulations to comply with (it's sort of in a residential area), therefore it really wasn't all that bad.

After settling into our room, we explored the hotel a little more, including the rooftop deck/hot tub area. Then we ventured down to the beach - literally on the other side of the dune from the hostel! We headed off to the right, walking all the way down to where the mouth of the river meets the sea, then climbed up a ledge to watch the sun set. Such a beautiful view and experience! It made me wish we had more than just one day to spend there - I could watch that sunset every day! Afterwards, we trekked back to the hostel for dinner. Because we were part of a tour group, a full dinner had been arranged and prepared for us (although you can also order off a menu). It was delicious - a variety of foods including some sort of meat stew and fresh breads. We ate dinner by candlelight to the sounds of the beach.

Once dinner was over, that's when the real fun began... we had heard the bar had a beer pong table and we were all to eager to introduce our European counterparts to the art of Beirut. It was a blast - and before we knew it, others who were staying at the hostel joined in as well! Even though we couldn't all communicate with one another, the rules were pretty simple to pantomime and the language of laughter is universal. We took our turns at the beer pong table and then hanging out by the bonfire - such a great way to relax and meet fellow travellers.

The following morning we enjoyed breakfast before heading off. It was set up in the main lobby/reception area and had the basic items - eggs, coffee, toast. Nothing to write home about but it did enable us to start the day without an empty stomach!

My wife and I are staying outside of Cape Town for a couple months. We had heard that Sedgefield was a lot of fun and we should check it out. We decided to tie it in to a long road trip on the southern coast. Mossel Bay, Sedgefield and Knysna were on our list. Staying a night maybe two if we liked it was the plan. Driving through Mossel Bay, we decided it wasn't what we were looking for. We decided to skip it and move on to Sedgefield hoping for better luck since we had already been in the car for 5 hours. We got in to town and stopped at the tourist information center since we really had no clue where to go. We asked for something cheap and by the ocean(didn't really expect an answer). Afrovibe was the name given first along with a couple other selections for cheap in town. Surprised and curious as to what the place might look like, we made or way to the coast passing the amazing lagoon along the way. At the time we had no clue how great that lagoon would be! Upon arrival at Afrovibe we were impressed with the location right on the coast! The bed in the room was very comfortable with the exception of the pillows. They were kind of flat but we had our neck pillows knowing that we are picky about that. We booked two nights and went to dinner at Da Vinci(great Italian food). Had breakfast the next morning at Afrovibe and got to talking with them about things to do. The menu by the way is awesome and they let you add bacon to anything! We had decided to do one of the scenic hikes along the beach and then back through town. Amazing views and houses to check out! During breakfast Rob was pitching a kloofing trip during the day and then mussel harvesting in the lagoon afterwards and his mussel potjie. After our hike and talking about our plans we booked two more nights and the all day adventure with Rob. We couldn't have made a better decision! The scenery was spectacular and I felt like we were on untouched land! Cliff jumping, river swimming, waterfall riding and even an aqua massage were included. Mussel harvesting in the lagoon created an aquarium at our feet while we cleaned them in crystal clear water! Dinner cooked by Rob was unbelievable! My wife went to culinary school and I was a chef in country clubs for 9 years so we can be pretty critical when it comes to food. The whole day was more than worth it! Lyle even took a group of us up to the paragliding launch spot for sunset! The van reminds me of the Mystery Machine from Scooby Doo. Very cool! We wound up booking another night for 5 total. It would have been more but we had plans back in Cape Town. We are going to go back before we leave South Africa! The staff and area totally exceeded all expectations. Can't believe I have rambled on so long so one last thought after reading the other reviews..... If you can't afford to travel, stay home.

I heard about Afrovibe from a fellow traveller on my first night in South Africa, and I'm so glad I took his advice to go. It was probably the best stay on my Garden Route trip thanks to the brilliantly warm, friendly staff who made me feel instantly at home. The dorm room is spacious & clean, the common areas are great to chill-out in and the toasted sandwiches from the cafe are delicious! I tried hiking & kloofing with Rob, swimming & snorkeling in the lagoon, beer pong & braais round the bar, went sunset seeking one evening and was treated to the most amazing star-filled night sky of my life. I also had the opportunity to spend an afternoon with Lyle & the Afrovibe team & the kids they mentor/volunteer, which is inspiring youth/sport project they are involved in. The location is breath-taking and is truly one of the best stretches of beach I have ever seen. Perfect for sunbathing & various watersports such as (watching other people, in my case,) kite-surf but also great if you like a good run, no trainers necessary! I can't wait to go back and would definitely recommend a visit - you'll leave with great memories and new friends.

Room Tip: I stayed in the 12-bed dorm and got the bunk by the window which meant I controlled the light, noise...

We spent one night there, after calling ahead to book earlier the same day, and were sorry we could not spend more time there. Given that it is a backpacking hostel, we were happy to overlook small details such as the room fan not working. It is in the most fabulous location, right one of the most beautiful beaches in the world, and a two-minute walk away from the lagoon - great for swimming and sunset walks. Our room was large, clean and comfortable, the staff were friendly and helpful, it was useful have the beach bar downstairs for food and drink, and we loved the fact that Chuck the Staffie was on hand to join anyone and everyone for a one-on-one morning run on the beach (that raised a laugh or two). We also felt safe enough to head down to the beach for some late-night stargazing, which was an exceptional experience and highly recommended.

Room Tip: Our front corner room was excellent; we thought the beach bar downstairs might get loud late at nigh...
