We had a fantastic 2 night stay in a giraffe house in Pine Lake Marina. Our 2 young daughters had plenty to do and its great that everything is included - don't have to pay extra for the canoes etc. The only annoyance was that there was a surcharge on my debit card when I payed at reception upon check in. I'm not sure why this was? During our holiday, we stayed at some very small privately owned establishments who did not charge extra for using a card, however, you go to a large place like Pine Lake Marina and must pay extra? Confused! Otherwise, we had a great time and will certainly consider returning again!

We have been going to Pine Lake for over 20 years and had actually time share during that period. Anyway we booked for the four of us being my wife and two daughters. On arrival we got the giraffe house as expected but could not work it out as we has two grown up daughter both in their 20's. We heard that it was re vamped and entering the sleeping area saw a problem. Two grown up daughters had to share a fold out bed. Not very cool. So back to the reception we went and inquired if they could please put in two single beds for us which was not possible. On booking we told them that it was for four people etc. The long and short of the story is we had to pay a lot more to get a unit with separate beds for my daughters. So we were off to a bad start. It was over Easter but the service to have the rooms cleaned was not included and so it left us with a bitter taste after all those years of enjoying the resort. To give credit the new shop and lounge area was very nice and the shop was well stocked and at reasonable prices. The place is many years old so we cannot really comment on the state of the houses but it was comfortable. Would we go back again, I do not think so. Very over priced for what you get. It have fantastic memories for our family as they were growing up, but now we have done that. For example we bought time share there many years ago and we spent many a year enjoying it. What we paid for the time share over 20 years in total we had to pay double that for one weekend during Easter. It was nice but not fantastic. The place is getting old now.

Room Tip: Do not go for the Giraffe houses if your children are to big or do not want to share a well used pul...

Dear Adrian N,

Thank you for your comments about the improved infrastructure - the Piazza containing the shop, bar and gym, which surrounds the heated pool and jacuzzis is working well.

There must have been some confusion regarding the revamp - we have not changed the layout of the chalets and the configuration should be exactly like it was when you had time-share. Our reservationists specifically ask the ages of children and inform guests that the sleeper couches are intended for younger children (although adults are not prohibited), but are not as comfortable as beds.

You will have noticed improvements however - clean drinking water in the chalet from the Reverse Osmosis plant, irrgation throughout, etc. We are currently in the process of refurbishing chalets and they are looking good.

As far as value for money goes - we feel the resort offers exceptional value for money, when you consider the activities included in your accommodation charge: tennis, squash, swimming pools, kayaking, pedalos, mini-golf, games room, etc. with nominal charges for other activities, such as water-skiing, tubing, bicycle hire, etc.

We hope you return and suggest that you have a look at our website www.pinelakemarina.co.za for our Special Offers, together with our facebook page to receive updates on any prizes. Also if you look at our rates the Low Seasons are at better rates than at Peak Times (such as Easter and Christmas).

Kind regards,

The Pine Lake Marina Team

We have been going to Pine Lake for the last 25 years and each time we enjoy it as much as the first time. A resort that has all the facilities that you could wish for with no need to go anywhre else for other activities. A view from your balcony across the lake to die for.
A small mashie golf course nearby is maybe the only time that you need to venture out as well as the Wild Oats Farmers Market just outside Sedgefield on a Saturday Morning.
Peaceful, tranquil a wonderful place to just relax and recharge the batteries.

If you are looking for a place to stay where the kids can roam freely and safely, Pine Lake Marina is the place to be.
It is the perfect holiday/breakaway destination.
You can braai while the kids play games, from video games to tennis and putt-putt.
The shop on-site is not expensive at all and the staff is very friendly.

I will recommend this for everyone.

We had a nice time here at Pine Lake Marina situated next to the beautiful Pine Lake. When we arrived it looked like a little village with people running around, riding on bikes, playing putt putt and whacking tennis balls. Unfortunately we learned all was not so well. For starters, their ads are very outdated. Things are much more expensive than advertised, and also not well maintained. The watersport facilities had many broken boats and terrible service. The games room had about half the games out of order. We weren't explained how it worked with the sports and games and at times it was very confusing. The tennis and squash courts were great though. It just seems like they built this amazing resort and then left it to its own devices. The rooms were well organized and clean, everything you need was there. Be sure to have a braai, or make coffee in the coffee machine! We couldn't sleep though because of our very noisy neighbours (who seemed to be used to 4 hours of sleep only!). The DSTV had all the main movie and sports channels, and there were lots of plugs. All in all we had a nice time - just a pity it couldn't be called more than "nice".

There is a great deal for the family to do and the facilities are very clean and tidy. The units are small. The one-bedroom "Giraffes" have a sleeper couch in the lounge. Their info clearly states that the couch is not meant for 2 adults but even 2 children will find it uncomfortable. It is a fold-down couch with a steel bar about a third of the way across which means everytime you roll into the groove with the bar, you wake up. Children under 6 might find it more comfortable. Then because they keep the bedding for the couch as well as the broom, mop, dustpan, bucket + ironing board in the wardrobe downstairs, there is no space for the children's clothes. You can either keep it in your suitcases or have the bedding and cleaning equipment all over the place. Tight squeeze into the upstairs shower - the floor pan is 62cm2 measured from the inside. The property was deserted during the Easter school holidays. Very eerie to have to walk around at night with lamp lights too far apart as no other lights from units were available. We were the only occupied unit in our "circle". Staff go out of their way to avoid eye-contact and a greeting -from housekeeping to those riding around in their golf carts. The latter glare as if you are trespassing.

Dear Bapetikosweti,

Thank you for taking the time to write a review of your experience at Pine Lake Marina. We have discussed your remarks regarding the sleeper couches and we are taking action by lowering the suggested ages for people sleeping on them.

Regarding the space for the children's clothes we will have a look at this, although the shelves in the downstairs wardrobe should be sufficient, we will have a look at the other items mentioned that are kept in this wardrobe and see if we can possibly arrange it differently to provide more space for storage.

Thank you for your note on the cleanliness - we have worked hard on this and we are happy that it is being noticed.

We will have a look at the street light issue and are considering solar-street lamps as we do have electricity constraints and need to keep consumption in mind, but it is a good point. We have also endeavoured to place guests closer together when the resort is more quiet as this will improve the atmosphere and feel of the resort.

We have addressed staff about the perceived attitude you mentioned and are quite surprised by your experience, since they are usually one of our greatest assets - with their friendly and warm attitude receiving regular praise. We will however reinforce the message that a smile is free.

In summary thank you for your notes we have truly taken them to heart and hope the next time you visit we will have made the necessary improvements and that your stay then will be 100% satisfactory!

Kind regards,

The Pine Lake Marina Team!
