“Not our first choice”
Reviewed February 3, 2013 via mobile

The rooms are very spacious. Two big flat screen TVs in the room. Huge bathroom with double shower. Our hair dryer was dirty and couldn't be used. Everything was very old and not perfectly maintained. The price was far too high for what was offered. It looks very nice on the website, but not as good in reality. Breakfast was just ok. Next time we will look for another place around Prince Albert.

Our introduction to De Bergkant by Carri could not have been more welcoming. We had a beautiful, air conditioned suite with a superb bathroom. It was close to the well maintained pool which was wonderfully cooling in the heat of the evening and was long enough to have a decent swim. If I was trying hard to pick any fault, I thought the breakfast lacked imagination considering the relative expense of the accommodation.

Love the Karoo especially sharing time with friends. Charles runs a wonderful position and nothing is too much trouble. His local knowledge is invaluable. So much to do in the village such as wonderful galleries, food, quaint wine estate and of course the wool shop. Beautiful bike rides. Trip up the Swartbeg pass not to be missed.

Room Tip: Honeymoon suite is really special.

I spent only one night as we were on a cycle tour. The short experience was all worth while. Excellent accommodation, beautiful and spacious bedrooms. Bathroom was fit for a king. Lovely gardens and swimming pools complete this picture. Will be back with family and stay a little bit longer.

Prince Albert was part of our Karoo trip and De Bergkant proved to be an excellent choice. We arrived when the entire town's power was off, but Charles was not intimidated by this and immediately got all the rechargable emergency torches going. The suite is beautiful with a luxurious bathroom. We could not use the lovely pools as it was too cold, nevertheless the pools and gardens are lovely.
The lodge is conveniently situated in the main street with an easy walk to the closeby restaurants and shops.
We'll be back!

I spent a night here in early April 2012 for R700 (single). The room was extremely large and comfortable, bathroom too (double shower & tub), beautiful swimming pools (there are 3), great breakfast, delightful town all round set in astonishingly beautiful surrounds. Charles definitely makes it. Could easilt have stayed a few days.

A group of us stayed at this wonderful lodge for the weekend 23/25 March .We all travelled to Prince Albert for a wedding on the 24/3. We decided to have a lamb on the spit braai for the FRIDAY Night.
Charles the owner arranged this for us and he joined us for a party of note that night!!!!!
The Lodge is outstanding, well maintained ,with beautiful grounds ,which are neat and well wooded lots of bird life. The suite which my wife and I had was, very comfotable with all mod cons you need, VERY LARGE COMFORTABLE BED,WITH NEW CRISP LINEN AND BATH /HAND towels.
Charles was a perfect host, nothing was to much for Him and his staff ! What a pleasure it is to stay in such a well run and clean establishment, thanks Charles, see you again.

Prince Albert is famous for its deciduous fruit and the milk, yoghurt and prize-winning cheese from Gay's Dairy. Guests will enjoy at the 'De Bergkant Lodge' a breakfast which is a delight in taste and presentation. The secluded gardens boast two large saltwater swimming pools: a 15m pool surrounded by verdant lawns and a 10m walled, private pool. We also offer a sauna and steam bath and hidden in a private garden you will find a small "star" bath. ... more   less
