Description: Cafe Photo Albert combines the experience of a delicious meal, or simply a drink, with the viewing of photos from the area of Prince Albert and all over Africa. The restaurant in the centre of town is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner from Thursday to Sunday. The menus consist of good local fare along with a distinct touch of Switzerland.

It was a spur of the moment decision to have breakfast at Cafe Photo Albert on Friday morning. The service was fine - the waitress certainly did not feel like smiling, but then, it was a rather chilly morning. My friend had a ham and cheese sandwich which was fine- hardly any butter and countable pieces of grated cheese. I decided on the rosti with bacon, onion and fried egg. I actually quite enjoyed it, though the rosti was not crispy enough as the oil was not properly heated and therefore the rosti was somewhat oily. We ordered filter coffee as per the menu but got espresso instead as there was not filter coffee. Its not the coffee's fault but I cannot drink espresso. The veranda has a lovely ambiance despite it being chilly. Aloof is a good way to describe the general experience of the staff, but the setting is nice, so I will go again.

We spent four nights in Prince Albert and each night Cafe Photo seemed dead quiet. Many of the locals recommended it, so we visited on our last night. We were told that the owner was Swiss and they served a good cheese fondue. When we arrived for our booking we were indeed the only people there, but didn't mind too much as we got to sit right by the fireplace. They did not have any music playing, so it was very quiet. There was no sign of the owners and we only saw one staff member the entire night. The service was good, but seemed hurried as if she wanted us out as quickly as possible. We asked the waitress whether she would recommend the fondue, to which her response was: 'It's very expensive!' Honesty is the best policy I guess, but not really the info we wanted. The soup starter tasted good, but was a little stodgy. The waitress brought our fondue main course about 1 minute after she cleared the soup bouls. The fondue was very good though. We skipped dessert, since we had no more room. When the bill arrived the waitress apologized for the fact that it was handwritten, because the computer was offline. When we wanted to pay with our debit card, she said the card machine 'is probably offline too'. She didn't go to check. My husband had to go to the ATM further up the street for cash. Our whole dinner lasted less than an hour, which is not the way we like to eat. All in all, not a bad experience, but lacking in the warm hospitality we had experienced at all the other places in Prince Albert.

We were a little hesitant to try Cafe Photo Albert at first as it was new since we had last been to Prince Albert. We were however so pleasantly surprised and enjoyed our first meal there so much, that we went back again the next night. A small menu but with something for everyone and the food was so beautifully presented and totally delicious! Both nights were pretty cold but they had a lovely fire going and good music (not too loud) The service was excellent and the prices good. Hosts Sabine and Stephan were great too! We will definitely eat there again when in Prince Albert!

We had lunch at Cafe Photo Albert on the Saturday of the Prince Albert Olive Festival. The service was really slow, although there was only three other occupied tables. Our waittress had no idea of the menu items - when I asked about my meal being different from what I ordered, she said she doesn't know, that is the way the kitchen makes it. The food quality was fair, really not great. When we eventually managed to sort out our payment, the waittress also had no idea how to operate the card machine, and someone else came and helped her. We asked if she was new, and the answer was yes. Just my opinion - I wouldn't put a brand-new waittress unfamiliar with the menu or even equipment on duty during a busy weekend when you particularly want to impress and re-attract new patrons.

The starter was very good but the main was average. Vegetable inedible, undercooked. The music was strident jazz not condusive to a relaxing meal. The owner did change it but that was still jazz. Would we go back, no. We had a good evening because of the people we met but otherwise it was not too good.
