“A fabulous economical- self catering place to stay!!”
Reviewed April 20, 2010

My husband and I stayed at the Seacliffe lodge- self catering suite "Sandpiper" in Hout Bay from March 4th-March29th,2010. We absolutely loved our little apartment. It had everything we needed. fridge/microwave/2 burners/queen bed and a pull out futon. The accomodation was very clean and each day our room was cleaned as well. (Which we did not expect.) The towels and linens were washed once a week as well. Tom the owner was very helpful and very accomodating. He woke up at 4am to get us to where our Safari would be one morning and got us to the Cape Argus bike race on time as well.

We really loved the location, across from the beach, away from the city, and amazing views of Chapmans Peak. Hout Bay is a great town and easy to walk to various places. Hout Bay has everything you need for dining, groceries, etc. and then Capetown is only a bus ride or taxi away.

We would highly reccommend this place. The only thing to be aware of is there is no air conditioning. There is a ceiling fan though. But we were fine even when it was 40 degreees!!

Within walking distance of the boats to seal island and mariners wharf seafood restaurant, the location is ideal. It overlooks the bay and there are views across to chapmans peak drive. Also, the blue route of the open top bus tours from Cape Town stop nearby. Our room was on the front with a private balcony, nicely furnished and kept spotlessly clean. There is an honesty bar, plus tea and coffee making facilities and the cooked breakfasts were good but it was disappointing to see tinned fruit instead of fresh. All staff were friendly, especially Harry the parakeet, who watched over us as we ate breakfast.
There is a fish processing plant at the harbour and, if you are very unlucky, the smell from certain of their operations is quite powerful.

Great location -quiet, yet within very short walking distance to beautiful beach, waterfront, marina, restaurants, local grocery store, and public transportation. Tom the proprietor is friendly and very helpful. The accommodations are clean and comfortable. I would stay there again. It was an enjoyable vacation.

We had a wonderful 6 night stay in this guesthouse. We had an excellent family room which included two bedrooms and a bathroom. The bedrooms were very spacious and clean. They were very well decorated throughout. The owner was very helpful and gave us some very useful information on places to visit. Breakfast was superb! We even managed a couple of fantastic runs along Chapmans Peak which was truly memorable!

Seacliffe Lodge offers an excellent, intimate Hout Bay base. It's well maintained and very welcoming, the owners couldn't be more accommodating. The room we had was on the front with a seaview terrace and was spacious and comfy. The bed was exceptionally comfortable. There's a nice pool shared with the guest house next door (we were the only people using it) and it's a short hop across the road to Mariners' Wharf with great restaurants / bars and boat trips. We stayed 5 nights and ate in Hout Bay a handful of times as well as exploring further afield. Every meal we had was fantastic. Hout Bay itself is really chilled and we were happy to stroll along the beach to Dunes bar. I recommend having a reliable taxi number to hand for getting around to Camps Bay and into Cape Town itself as they're not easy to pick up in Hout Bay - most tourists seemed to be self driving. The hop on / off tourist bus does stop right outside the hotel however.

Beats staying in an impersonal hotel in town. Top tip - take a personalised wine tour with the owner, Tom.

The SeaCliffe Lodge is located about a 30 minute drive outside of Cape Town. If you do not mind driving, or like to stay where it is a little quieter, this is the place for you.

Even though we spent most of our time in Cape Town, it was still nice to be away from all the hustle and bustle. The only problem with this is that with the $10 South African wines, you really need to be careful!

The B&B itself is 2 separate buildings. One is run by the parents, and the other by the “kids.” Both couples were excellent hosts. We stayed in the parents building which was a little newer, and in my opinion, a little nicer. Our friends stayed in the other building which was nice as well, just a little older…..however, the rooms were bigger. Either building you stay in, you have the same access to the food and pool area. The son runs the dining, and the daughter does the massage. The parents do a lot of the management. Overall, things run very smoothly.

The room we stayed in was excellent. It had a super plush bed, and nice linens. The bathroom had nice amenities, including towel warmers….nice touch. They had some excellent (not sure what kind) sipping liquor that was truly a treat in every room.

There is not much to the grounds. Parking, the two buildings, and a small (but nice) pool area. Everything was very well kept.

The English style breakfast was fantastic. The hot items are made to order and there is also a buffet for breads, cereals, and other breakfast items. The owners have a great bird that will join you for breakfast if you wish. S/he is very friendly and will eat along side you. It is very much a family business and the attention to detail shows.

Just across the street are some neat, and unique, restaurants. There is also a nice beach, fishing tours, Seal Island trips, glass bottom boat tours, and shops.

Just up the street is some world class dining opportunities in Cape Town and Camps Bay.

My Fiancee and I had a fantastic time staying at the Seacliffe for 5 days in early January - Tom is a great host, very knowledgeable and helpful with restaurant recommendations and directions to Newlands, the city centre and all the way down to Cape Point. Musa cooked up some fantastic food for breakfast - quite possibly the best omelettes in Cape Town, they really were sensational.

The room itself was very clean, spacious and comfortable - always felt secure and safe not only at the Seacliffe but also the surrounding area. Hout Bay is a superb place to stay when visiting Cape Town - great base to explore from: 5 mins from Llandudno beach, 20 mins from Camps Bay, 25 mins from the Cable Car to Table Mountain, 35 mins to the V&A Waterfront (although when you are driving the fabulous coastal road it certainly doesn't feel that long!), 15 mins to the Constantia wine route and 15 mins to Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens.

The Seacliffe Lodge is a superb place to stay, and i would highly recommend it to anyone visiting Cape Town. We loved it so much, we booked again for a further night at the end of our holiday before flying back to London.
