Seacliffe Lodge
Ranked #29 of 60 Hout Bay B&B and Inns
Reviewed March 8, 2010

The SeaCliffe Lodge is located about a 30 minute drive outside of Cape Town. If you do not mind driving, or like to stay where it is a little quieter, this is the place for you.

Even though we spent most of our time in Cape Town, it was still nice to be away from all the hustle and bustle. The only problem with this is that with the $10 South African wines, you really need to be careful!

The B&B itself is 2 separate buildings. One is run by the parents, and the other by the “kids.” Both couples were excellent hosts. We stayed in the parents building which was a little newer, and in my opinion, a little nicer. Our friends stayed in the other building which was nice as well, just a little older…..however, the rooms were bigger. Either building you stay in, you have the same access to the food and pool area. The son runs the dining, and the daughter does the massage. The parents do a lot of the management. Overall, things run very smoothly.

The room we stayed in was excellent. It had a super plush bed, and nice linens. The bathroom had nice amenities, including towel warmers….nice touch. They had some excellent (not sure what kind) sipping liquor that was truly a treat in every room.

There is not much to the grounds. Parking, the two buildings, and a small (but nice) pool area. Everything was very well kept.

The English style breakfast was fantastic. The hot items are made to order and there is also a buffet for breads, cereals, and other breakfast items. The owners have a great bird that will join you for breakfast if you wish. S/he is very friendly and will eat along side you. It is very much a family business and the attention to detail shows.

Just across the street are some neat, and unique, restaurants. There is also a nice beach, fishing tours, Seal Island trips, glass bottom boat tours, and shops.

Just up the street is some world class dining opportunities in Cape Town and Camps Bay.

My Fiancee and I had a fantastic time staying at the Seacliffe for 5 days in early January - Tom is a great host, very knowledgeable and helpful with restaurant recommendations and directions to Newlands, the city centre and all the way down to Cape Point. Musa cooked up some fantastic food for breakfast - quite possibly the best omelettes in Cape Town, they really were sensational.

The room itself was very clean, spacious and comfortable - always felt secure and safe not only at the Seacliffe but also the surrounding area. Hout Bay is a superb place to stay when visiting Cape Town - great base to explore from: 5 mins from Llandudno beach, 20 mins from Camps Bay, 25 mins from the Cable Car to Table Mountain, 35 mins to the V&A Waterfront (although when you are driving the fabulous coastal road it certainly doesn't feel that long!), 15 mins to the Constantia wine route and 15 mins to Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens.

The Seacliffe Lodge is a superb place to stay, and i would highly recommend it to anyone visiting Cape Town. We loved it so much, we booked again for a further night at the end of our holiday before flying back to London.

Stayed here for one week in the self-catering unit. We wanted to stay in Hout Bay rather than Cape Town itself as we were going to explore the region anyway and had concerns about driving around/finding parking in the city.
Overall it was an excellent choice - Hout Bay itself is lovely and much more relaxed than Cape Town. We were more than happy to drive the coast road up to the V&A Waterfront most nights (took about 30-40mins). However, we also took advantage a couple of nights of what was on offer in Hout Bay and enjoyed being able to walk to Mariners Wharf at night.
Seacliffe Lodge is easy to find as it is directly opposite Mariner's Wharf right in the harbour. Our hosts were very friendly and the self catering unit was spacious and had everything you would need to self-cater - including a maid who even washed up for us! We could park right outside our front door and felt very safe and secure.
I would recommend staying here for anyone who wants to explore the whole of the Cape Peninsula and not just Cape Town itself.

We just returned from the trip of a life time with fantastic memories of Hout Bay, Cape Point, Stellenbosch Wine Country and the V & A Waterfront. Tom picked us up and dropped us off at the airport which makes for a safe and reliable transfer. He also took us touring on two different days. Tom's private tours were catered to us alone. The first tour was of the wine country and his Brother in law, Jacques, and friends ensured we had a great time. The second tour to Cape Point was unforgettable. I only wish I had aimed the camera correctly at the baboon encounter! He took us to restaurants with the best food that we would never have found on our own. The hop on hop off bus is right across the street for a tour and economical transport to V & A and all the local attractions. Also across the street is a beautiful beach and Mariner's Wharf. We tried three restaurants and enjoyed them all. Tom drove us up to Chapman's Peak for pictures and then dropped us off at the Chapman's Peak Hotel for the ultimate seafood meal. When we were done, the hotel phoned Tom and he was there immediately to pick us up! We walked to the mall and to the Spar from the lodge so there is a lot to do without a car. But, if you would like a car, Tom can arrange that at a good deal. We stayed in the self catering accomodation which had daily maid service. The maids are the best as they even did our dishes! They don't have to do that anywhere and we made sure to tip for it. We did have coffee in the lodge in the beautiful kitchen. We just can't say enough about how well we were treated and what a good time we had. By the time we left, Tom felt like family!

Stopped here with our 13month old baby for 8 nights, in a family room that could easily accomodate 4 plus a cot.
Tom the owner has heaps of local knowledge, Moosa cooks up a mean full english! The place is clean and homely, the honesty bar came in handy in a communal lounge area once the little one went to bed although there was more that enough room to relax in our room. Ideally placed for Kirstenbosch, Groot and Klein Constantia, The World of Birds, Newlands etc. and only a short enjoyable drive to the V&A via some charming spots like Llandudno and Camps Bay. Three restaurants/bars within a safe walking distance, especially Mariners Wharf and the Look Out Bar. We had a great stay and will come back next time we are in Cape Town

We have just returned from a week at the Villa Afrique which is the 5-star side of the Seacliffe Lodge in Hout Bay in Cape Town. The Bay is about 30 minutes drive from the Airport and Tom picked us up and took us back for our return flight. We cannot speak highly enough of this place, it was simply wonderful. The Lodge is run by Tom and Suegne (who also runs a beauty salon from there) and their gorgeous little man Fraser. The Villa next door is run by Suegne's parents, Deon and Omar (unfortunately we did not meet her as she was away). We loved this place and could not have been treated any better if we had been family, they made us feel totally at home . The accommodation was absolutely superb, Deon and Omar live upstairs and let out the 4 bedrooms downstairs. The bedrooms and bathrooms were decorated to a very high standard, as was the rest of the Villa: there was so much tasteful attention to detail. The reception area was delightful, very spacious with comfortable furniture and a a lovely mosaic floor. There was also a TV and CD player with lots of CDs which we were able to use and an honesty bar. The patio doors lead out to the pool area where there were very comfortable sun loungers and a lovely shaped pool. Breakfast was served by the pool and consisted of fresh fruit, yoghurts, cereals, cold meats etc. PLUS a full english or whatever you wanted!! I would definitely recommend the 'Villa Afrique' omelette, it was delicious. We also had an excellent breakfast next door at the Lodge for a couple of mornings which was cooked by Musa, a lovely man and a very good chef. The beautiful Hout Bay beach is across the road and the wharf area and marina has 2 great restaurants, the Wharfside Grill and the Lookout Deck . Deon very kindly took us and picked us up from 2 other local restaurants, Luigi's and Lesantro, all four had excellent food and were very good value for money.
We caught the tour bus from across the road, this is a hop on/off bus and takes you to lots of interesting places including the Victoria and Albert Waterfront in Cape Town. This is a fantastic area for shops, restaurants and bars - definitely worth a visit. Take your passport with you and you will be able to claim your Tax back there and then on your purchases and save doing it at the airport !
The beach is just across the road and is simply breathtaking - take a nice walk along to the Dunes bar and also visit the Mainstream shopping area nearby. There are some lovely shops.
In summing up I would say that this is an excellent place to stay - the family were so kind and hospitable: we will definitely be going back!
