This is absolutely our favourite place in South Africa. We stayed in february 2011 and then again in december 2011. The first time we stayed in the poolside-room. Room was cosy and comfortable, the second travel we got to stay in the loft suite. The loftsuite offered more privacy and had a large balcony with a view of the most magnificent sunsets! Breakfasts offerings where way above guesthouse average. All in all the establishment is a perfect base to explore the Cape town-area - it is easy to go into town, Kirstenbosch, Table mountain etc and equally easy to travel to the Cape point, Constantia area, Fishhoek etc. Hospitality is friendly - June and Trevor really make you feel welcome!!!! Thank you Amblewood Guesthouse!

We had nice stay at Amblewood. We were in the area for a wedding and Trevor was very helpful with directions and suggestions on what to do in the surrounding areas. Our room was rather public as everyone has to pass right by our door and window to get to their room or to breakfast or to their cars ext, so that made it a bit awkward. Further, we did not have much closet space to put our clothes in, but the room was nicely decorated and maintained. I would think that compared to other places, it might just be a little expesive for what you get, but still worth your while to go there.
All together, we had a nice time in Hout bay.

I was fortunate enough to stay at Amblewood for 10 days and had the most enjoyable time at what is a wonderful Guest House run by Trevor and June. I was so sorry when it came time to leave as we had so enjoyed our stay. From the comfortable rooms with beautiful views over the Hout Bay and the mountains around, to the amazing breakfasts in the morning whipped up by Trevor with his trusty apron, we had a wonderful stay.
The accommodation and facilities were superb; I stayed in one of the upstairs rooms with a balcony looking on to Hout Bay and the sea, unforgettable sunsets. Each room has a different “theme” and decor and furnishings match appropriately down to the last detail. The swimming pool provided much needed respite in the hot afternoons and faces out to the sea too so you have great views out.
The biggest draw to Amblewood and the thing I will miss most is the warmth and friendliness provided by Trevor and June. If at any time we wanted to ask their opinion on where to go, what to eat, events we wanted to see, they would not only help us answer these questions but would make reservations on our behalf and print directions when we wanted to drive somewhere particular. They truly are incredible hosts and are always happy to chat with you making you feel welcome and relaxed.
When I sadly left at the end of my stay at Amblewood I truly felt relaxed and rested and had had a proper holiday. I will most definitely return to Amblewood and would recommend to anyone and everyone to do the same thing.

From the time you arrive and experience Trevor and June's warm and open hearted welcome until you sadly leave at the end of your stay you will feel that you are at home, part of the family, and they have been waiting for you to finally visit. Amblewood is splendidly situated with an eye for the magnificent views Hout Bay can offer, with all guest rooms facing spectacular sea views - or, if you prefer, slightly to the left are breathtaking views of the impressive mountain behind. It is quiet, calm, restful, and very comfortable. However the difference that distinguishes this Guest House from others that we have stayed in, is the warm, informal, friendly atmosphere which pervades at all times. Trevor and June have provided not only a very comfortable and beautiful Guest House, but have also successfully created your home from home in what must be one of the most beautiful locations in the world. Nothing was too much trouble, their attention and time is freely and happily given if invited, but they do not intrude unnecessarily. I would recommend a stay in this Guest House without reservation, and my family and I look forward to another stay in the future. John and Clare Cambridge

Best place in town!
We spent 8 days at the Amblewood Guest House.
From the first day it was like coming home. Trevor and June are so lovely, the room and everything else have been great, the pictures don't lie!
If you needed anything, Trevor and June were helping anytime! For example we had no car in our time in cape town, but that was no problem, either we had Trevor to drive us wherever we wanted to go or he organized a someone who could drive us.
We'll come back, that's sure!

Certainly the perfect place to stay near Cape Town. Very conveniently located, very quiete and fantastic views. Trevor and June are perfects hosts, very friendly and welcoming. They are always ready to help: give a recommendation, a direction or even buy an adaptor for you. Even the Labrador, Timber, is waiting for you in the morning to say hello and receive a treat, of course. I would recommend this guesthouse to everybody and would come back if I have the chance to visit Cape Town again.

Room Tip: All the rooms look to have the view on the Bay. Some have also a private balcony (bottom left and to...

Trev & June are hosts that make a difference- they are genuine and considerate and they run a B&B that makes you feel like you're at the top of the world- both in location and comfort! The location is a quite a way out of Cape Town so your own transport is recommended, but we wanted to be near Chapman's Peak and Groote Constantia, so this was perfect. An added bonus is that you're up in the hills away from the fish-cannery if the wind should turn! The rooms are gorgeous, each decorated differently with some lovely collectibles or some eclectic africana. Their recommendations for meals and activities were spot-on; we enjoyed coming back to the B&B in the evening after long and busy days, drinking a wonderful bottle of SA wine on their spectacular deck, with our feet in the pool, the comfort of a friendly pooch and some great conversation. Nothing was too much trouble for Trevor, and when we left it felt like we were leaving family.
