The beautiful restaurant seemed to promise a beautiful meal, but it did not live up to its lovely calm and tastefully decorated dining room, whose tables were well spaced apart. A stunning glass chandelier hung from the ceiling and a lot of thought had gone into making the surroundings somewhere one wanted to spend two or three hours with friends over a leisurely meal.

Our drinks orders were promptly taken and menus offered to us all. The dishes all sounded interesting and I jumped at the chance to try the Beetroot soup with pancetta. Sorry chef, way too salty, I would have preferred it without the cheese addition. My husband's salmon trout starter was OK.

My main of Karoo lamb was delicious but my husband's mushroom tagliatelle was overcooked and gloopy. The side order of vegetables we'd asked for when orders were taken, had been forgotten about, but to give them their due, they rustled up a great dish of the green stuff PDQ.

Only one of our party had dessert and it looked very nicely presented. I ordered fresh mint tea with some petite fours, the latter of which turned out to be 4 thin, dry, and tasteless slices of crisp sweet cake.

The service, surprisingly enough for a Cape Town restaurant of this quality, was not great and not attentive at all. It just wasn't as slick as one would expect for a five star hotel's main restaurant.

My loo check gave it a score of 8, very nicely decorated!

Not sure if I would want to return next year.

It's a very friendly and hospitable place for staying!
Every corner has its specialty waiting for you to find out!
You can stay there whole day and don't even want to go out for a walk.
"Enjoy it" is the only recommend from me.

This Hotel has a charming atmosphere, excellent service and great setting.
The rooms are very nicely decorated, feels homely and cosy.
Breakfast was excellent with a nice setting, healthy options and good service.
The personal feel to the hotel, small gestures by staff like the "bed time story" was really something different and great.
We enjoyed our stay thoroughly and will definitely visit again

Being spoiled for choice with the range of accommodation, a place needs to walk the extra mile in order to set itself apart. Hout Bay Manor does it, and even more. We arrived on a cold day, the wind howling, and walked into a warm and cozy treasure trove of memorabilia. There are interesting decor elements around every corner: jars of marshmallows in the hallways, tribal art, old photographs, paper sculptures of animals, all blending seamlessly. Dinner/room service portions were more than generous: we were barely able to finish one meal due to the portion size. What really made the stay one of the most special ones ever, was the bed time story - a turn down service with a printed African fable, biscuits, and the weather forecast for the next day. Service is great - they know how to make you feel like the VIP guest! What could easily have been a miserable night in the poor weather conditions, turned out to be a magical visit.

Room Tip: Even though I didn't see a lift, you won't have to lift a finger to get your heavy suitcases...
