For all of us who have been lucky enough to discover The Hout Bay Hideaway, the main concern is to keep it hidden away. Be in no doubt: this is an absolutely 5 star gem, and we would n't want too many people discovering it, or booking will become as difficult as it occasionally already is

The house has great rooms: we can testify to the Garden Flat--enormous and very thoughtfully
equipped, and the Skyline room which opens out onto the verandah, in full view of an unusual but delightful garden with a mountain beyond. Sitting on the Verandah, soaking up the atmosphere, polishing off Sue's exquisite scrambled eggs, is a very happy experience.
Undoubtedly, the main ingredients in the success of the Hideaway experience are Sue and Martin. They operate to the most meticulous standards, and you get the impression that Sue's watchful eye does n't miss a thing that is somehow not up to her demanding requirements. Above all, they are delightful people, with whom you can have a good laugh, and they simply cannot do enough to help you make the most of your holiday. We have been twice, and it won't be long before we go again……..

We had the most fantastic stay with Sue and Martin and we found ourselves comparing all of our subsequent accommodation in South Africa to Hout Bay Hideaway and wishing we were still there. What really made this place the ideal holiday destination was the peace and quiet, gorgeous plunge pool at the back and homeliness we experienced. We felt like we were staying with family friends. Breakfast is set up on the balcony outside, highlight of every morning. Sue and Martin were only too happy to recommend places to eat and explore. Only slight issue (and it's a minor one) was the lack of a black out blind in the bedroom. After a long journey we wanted to sleep during the day and it was quite light. Thank you so much for a wonderful stay, we will definitely be returning.

Room Tip: Go for the room overlooking the pool at the back

We had originally only booked 2 nights at this wonderful B&B, but within an hour of arriving, we had already extended our stay!

We were greeted by Sue & Martin who couldn't have been friendlier or more helpful for all our questions and needs. We're real foodies and they were at hand to give us a very honest review of the local restaurants and amenities.

The room itself was stunning, with a huge comfortable bed, soft linens, luxurious towels and bathrobes. If it couldn't get better, wait until you open the door onto a glorious balcony. With beautifully arranged plants and trees not to mention the quirky bath tub...which im told is in full working order. This is what gives the place its name. The trees and plants make the place feel intimate and a true luxurious hideaway.

Breakfast was delicious with our own personal spread of continental and cooked breakfast! We were able to enjoy this out on the balcony overlooking the tranquil garden.

Hout Bay hideaway, is one of the most beautiful, welcoming and tranquil places we have stayed. This deserves a five star rating but would beat any hotel hands down due to the most warm and welcoming hosts, Sue & Martin!

We're looking forward to staying with you again in the future!

Dear Bahmini Thanks for your great review, it was our pleasure having you stay. We tried to book the Malay restaurant at the Cellars but unfortunately it's no longer open, what a shame.

We were looking for a special, relaxing place to stay over Christmas that would offer a great location slightly away from the main tourist areas of Cape Town and couldn't believe our luck when we discovered the Hout Bay Hideaway - we could not have picked a better guest house. Brit couple Sue and Martin run a stunning house not far from the picturesque coastline and amenities of Hout Bay. The daily breakfast provided on the terrace was a particular highlight and the care and style with which they have furnished the rooms was evident to see immediately. It really felt like a home from home. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this beautiful hideaway to anyone looking for a truly memorable holiday base from which to explore Cape Town and the surrounding area. We are already dreaming of going back!

We stayed at this wonderful B&B for the third time. Hout Bay Hideaway is a small and very comfortable guest house in a quiet street that stands out because of the way it is managed by the owners, the style and great attention to detail, and the location which makes it a perfect base for tours around Cape Town. While the rooms are all beautiful and well appointed, the Bay View Suite offers even more space, utmost privacy and a terrace to die for. Breakfasts are delicious (including fresh juice and fruit salad), served on your private veranda. A hidden gem that may easily be one of the best in all of SA.

We have just returned from an incredibly brilliant first trip to Cape Town and environs. We stayed our first seven nights at Houtbay Hideaway which was absolutely great. It is fairly central for access to Table Mountain, the gardens at Kirstenbosch, Twelve apostles - all an easy 15-20 mins at most, travelling through some of the most stunning coastline scenery - and on to Chapman Peak Drive heading down the peninsula for Cape Point and Cape Hope, Simons Town and False Bay. Everyday was an excitement !

Hout Bay itself was so easy to navigate and to park that popping back out for dinner after a long day was a doddle, and with such a good choice of restaurants all within a five minute drive.

This really is a brilliant location and worked so well for us, but what made it all especially great was the hospitality and kindnesses shown to us by Martin and Sue together with sound advice and guidance (not to mention the superlative breakfasts that set us up for the day!). Everything else written about Houtbay Hideaway is absolutely true.

Although it's been said before in other reviews the rooms are beautifully furnished & fitted, breakfast is delivered in style with attention to detail. Sue & Martin are attentive hosts & always available when necessary, so don't miss the opportunity if you are visiting Cape Town.
