This is truly a 5-star Guesthouse. We had a simply wonderful two nights here in early March and were made so comfortable by Sue and Martin that we ditched all our plans to go anywhere in the evenings and just lazed on the veranda with a Woolworths picnic and some wine ogling the beautiful garden and the stars.

It really shows when hosts are genuinely nice people who love what they do and that is certainly the case here. Our bed was fantastically comfortable and all rooms have a little kitchenette tucked away in a cupboard which we found extremely useful. The attention to detail is quite astonishing and the entire house has been furnished with thought and care with unusual and eclectic pieces collected over the years since the owners moved to Cape Town from England some years ago. Our room was spacious and comfortable and I am sure all the others are the same. However, I am afraid I am not telling you which room we had in case it gets booked up when we are ready to return.

We also very much appreciated the help and advice that was alway on hand. Sue and Martin do not just check you in and disappear. They know the best restaurants and sightseeing options and are happy to advise and help you book them. We thoroughly enjoyed the tour of Kirstenbosch that Sue organised for us - and which we would have missed, without her advice.

After we left Hout Bay we went to another Guesthouse in the Winelands which we also enjoyed, but which fell far short of the Hideaway standards. The reasons? A hard, cheap uncomfortable bed and a charming owner - who however did not appear after day one and left everything to her staff. These things really do make a difference. We were very sorry that we had not planned to stay longer in Hout Bay and will certainly be back. And by the way - if , as I was, you are trying to decide between Camps Bay or Hout Bay - definitely Hout Bay! There is much more to see and do and it is more convenient.

Tip - go to the Woolworths (M & S) which is nearby to get some food and have a picnic on the verandah in the evening. If you have a car, do NOT miss the drive along Chapmans Peak Road, whatever you do.

Location - in a street of beautiful houses, about 7-10 minutes downhill all the way to the local shopping centre on foot. There you will find an M & S (Woolworths) foodhall, banks, nice cafes and many other shops. However I would not walk back up except in cool weather unless extremely energetic (I am not) - the street is fairly quite steep and the house is near the top.

Room Tip: I don't think you could go wrong - I am sure they are all of the same high standard as ours.

Sue and Martin are wonderful hosts and look after their guests extremely well. We stayed for our first eight nights, toured for eight nights, and returnrf for our last two nights. Sue and Martin can arrange airport transfers and can put you in touch with a car hire company who drop off and pick up at the property. The bedrooms are large and airy and the superking bed was extremely comfortable. There is a kitchenette with a fridge (milk and bottle of wine), microwave, sink and crockery so if you get tired of eating out pop down to Woolworths (food hall equivalent to M & S) and get some goodies to enjoy with a bottle of wine sat on the decking by your room. Breakfast is brought to your table on the decking. The fruit platter was beautifully presented and the bread and Danish pastry so fresh we opted out of the cooked breakfast on offer.

IAfter a hot day it was lovely to take a dip in the pool (towels provided) and if you are daring you could take a bath in the garden under the stars!

The property is around a 10 minute walk down hill to the main street with a good choice of restaurants. It is okay to walk down in daylight but as there are no street lights it is best to get a taxi back in the evening.

Take the hop on/hop off tour bus that stops at Hout Bay to see the sights of Cape Town. Drop of at the botanical gardens and have lunch at the cafe there. Take the included tour to one of the Constantia wineries and enjoy some wine tasting. We had a two day ticket and caught the 10 a.m. bus giving you plenty of time for sightseeing. This was a really good introduction to the area.

This was our first trip to South Africa (hopefully not our last) and we couldn't have found a better place to stay for our introduction to the country. Thanks Sue and Martin for making us feel so welcome.

Room Tip: You won't be disappoined with any of them.

Stayed here for 7 nights in December and have already booked to go back next year. Fantastic rooms, superb hosts and a location that was the perfect balance between relaxation and action. Would have no concern in recommending to my friends and family!

Room Tip: all a great but ask for the 'sun downers' view (see photo from room!)

A 5 night stay which was our second visit, and we've already booked for a longer stay next year.
Martin and Sue provide a service which is really difficult to match. The rooms are spotless and superbly decorated. There is a mini kitchen, if you need it. A beautifully presented (and very large) breakfast is served to you on your balcony, which either overlooks the bay or the beautiful garden. Nothing is too much trouble. The first time we went my wife was not very well. Sue was really caring. It's a great base for touring the Cape Town area. Absolutely no hesitation in recommending it. .

We stayed here for 8 nights in November and absolutely loved it. We loved Hout Bay and it was a brilliant base for us to get out and about and see Cape Town and the surrounding areas. The house is great. Pool and garden were stunning and I was a big fan of the hammock.

Our room was fantastic - we stayed in the Bay View room. It was immaculate, the bed was super-comfortable and we loved the terrace. Martin and Sue were great hosts and gave us lots of good advice on the local area and recommended some great restaurants. Breakfast was yet another highlight.

We'll definitely be going back to Cape Town and will definitely stay here again. I would recommend without hesitation.
