Snoekies is an old fishing kitchen originally aimed at the local fisherman. It has flourished into a very busy restaurant for locals and tourists alike.

The fare is basic fish and chips varieties. It's a plastic knife-and-fork place where it's acceptable to share tables with perfect strangers! It's a place where all cultures and all races eat and mingle.

And it's set right at the end of the Hout Bay harbour road, with the fishing boats right there.

The staff are friendly and helpful. The prices are reasonable. The portions are large and filling. And the food is always VERY fresh!

Worth the trip to Hout Bay for this!

Best fish and chips ever. The restaurant may look basic with selfhelp butb that does not matter because the fish is delicious and good value.

One would expect a venue 20 meters from the sea to serve up better meals than inland venues. This meal was bone dry unappetising junk. We used to frequent Snoekies and enjoyed beautiful sea food dishes. Sadly won't see me again. Judging by the absence of customers, I guess this is a general view.

I used to come here with my parents as a child everytime we visited the Cape and in my adult years I cant help but take a drive out here everytime I return to the Cape for business or pleasure. Do not be fooled by its "fishing boat" looks and somewhat harbour type environment. If you enjoy FRESH food at a reasonable price then this is a MUST if you are visiting the Cape. Fresh local fish cooked on the spot and served to you with a smile and a touch of Captonian humour makes this one of the most original places to fill your tummy. Take a long walk on the pier or just sit on the beach and enjoy your meal - either way you do it, it will be one of the best meals you will ever enjoy in SA. If you are a first timer in SA and have not made a trip out here - then you have not experienced the true culture of how South Africans enjoy fish & chips.
