“Awful food and expensive!”
Reviewed March 28, 2013 via mobile

My wife and I shared a combo, the batter tasted rancid, the fish was full of bones nearly choking us, when we peeled off
The batter the fish had a bad taste and the prawns were terrible. The only edible food was the the calamari.. We got the kids fish and chips for our 2 year old son but we could not give him the fish as it was also full of bones. The service was crap and the attitude of the miserable toothless women that work there sucked.... Never again!

“Good grilled snoek and chips”
Reviewed March 27, 2013

We went to Snoekies at Hout Bay twice on our recent trip to Cape Town. By the second visit we knew to share the Grilled Snoek and chips as the portions were huge! The fish is slightly greasy but very rich and tasty. Service is efficient and there are plenty of tables to eat at outside. Worth a visit for a quick fish lunch when you visit Hout Bay.

“Tasty but greasy”
Reviewed March 18, 2013

A group of us decided to have take-away seafood for lunch over the Argus weekend and we were driving through Hout Bay and decided on Snoekies. The food is very oily but then it is mostly fried so you can expect that. The deep fried calamari is excellent, the prawns are OK and the snoek is good (but it does have bones in it). If you eat at one of the outside table’s like we did don’t go throwing chips (fries) to the seagulls as they descend on you in swarms. They are also brave and will take food out of your plate or hand. It seems quite a touristy type thing to feed the seagulls, but they can become a bit overpowering when there are too many around. So for seafood and feeding seagulls Snoekies is a good quick stop with views of the working harbour.

“quality Fish and chips”
Reviewed March 14, 2013

As a take-away style business, the seating is rudimentary yet not out of place in a working fishing harbour. The hake and chips are better portioned if you decide to sit down rather than take away! There is now a licenced bar on the premises, that is if you care to make your way up an industrial looking spiral staircase! The food served is well portioned, but if you are looking for spectacular views or less fishy smelling (a nearby fish meal factory) then rather go to the other side of the bay. Staff are generally friendly and helpfull!

“My first visit to the Cape”
Reviewed February 17, 2013

Snoekies is a great fish and chip shop right in the harbour serving a variety of locally caught fish. It can get very busy so be prepared to wait to get served.
