“A German Gem in Hout Bay”
Reviewed May 16, 2013

We have been eating at Alpenstube regularly since Petra and Kurt have taken over. Kurt serves up great hearty German food, one of the best eisbeins you can get anywhere, wonderful schnitzels, just to name a few of the dishes. Petra, and her son do a great job looking after the clients. If you want to enjoy bit of Germany in Hout Bay go the Alpenstube!

“Hout Bay”
Reviewed January 7, 2013

The food was fantastic! We stayed at the the Cap Serein Guest House in Hout Bay which is also owned by Kurt and Petra Schramm. Both the guest house and the restaurant are gems!

“The best Geman restaurant in the Cape”
Reviewed December 14, 2012

Our second year in Cape Town, into our fifth week, and we've already visited Alpenstube three times; which is an indication of how really good this German restaurant is. Complete with the best imported German draft beers and an excellent ambience, the food is to die for. From a simple bratwurst, to the superb Zwiebel Rostbraten, to the magnificent 1kg Eisbein...which is a challenge in itself. The restaurant is exceptionally well run by chef Kurt and wife Petra Schramm (originally from Munich), with their son backing up as perfect barman in the biergarten.Alpenstube is in Hout Bay, a ten minute drive from Cape Town, but well worth the short journey.

“Eisbein & Apple Rings!”
Reviewed October 16, 2012

We had a lovely Sunday lunch at this restaurant. Probably the best Eisbein I've ever had. Nice beer selection and authentic German sausages too.
