Every time we go to Cape Town, we pop into Dunes and are never disappointed. The kids love it, as there are climbing frames built right on the beach, the view is of the Bay and Harbour and the architecture is is charming!

The pizza's are delicious washed down with an ice cold beer and the Cajun Calamari so yummy with a glass of icy (Philistine, I know, but the heat calls for it) Sauvignon Blanc, on a beautiful hot day!

The service can be a bit slow, but this is the kind of place you want to relax in and soak up the beautiful Cape and not worry about the time!

On Sunday 17Feb ten of us went for breakfast, the service was poor and when the food arrived it was as bad. We complained a couple of times about the long wait and were told they were now into lunch service. The first of our group arrived at 10.00am and our breakfast finally arrived at just before midday. Dunes has a superb position in Hout Bay, and it seems they are content to let the view take centre stage. What a pity!!!

My partner and I have had good lunches here in the past, but Sun 24 Feb was terrible. We were happy to get a table organised quickly, even though we had no reservation. When fish and chips finally arrived, the chips were cold. The fish was hot and dark brown - well fried? The texture of the fish was like mush (was it twice fried because it was getting cold?) The waiter was hapless (please train staff well). Manager eventually came. Offered us something else, but we were clearly turned off lunch. We paid for starters and beers we had had. Best response from manager would have been: Taste fish, "Yes it's terrible. I'll fry you fresh fish right now!" And/or offer us something else free or, since we were leaving, not accept payment for starters and beer. But a completely gormless nothing. We went to Snoekies, Sea Point and had excellent fish and chips.

Situated on the beach, this is a great place for a summers breakfast. The food delicious and fresh, the service efficient and very friendly. Definitely worth a visit (return visit for us )

This is the spot in Hout Bay to be when the sun heads down. While the kids romp in the sands, enjoy fresh seafood, good wine and a fabulous view.
