Good value and great views. We had a very comfortable 5 days here, and enjoyed it. The driveway and approach is hellish, not for the faint hearted! The alarm system was a pain, it went off at all hours when guests were arriving and leaving in the night. We were refunded our deposit in full in cash before leaving without David even inspecting the apartment, and found the hosts very friendly and attentive. Immaculately clean!

We take a lot of time to select accommodation and here we found a delightful place with breathtaking views and very attentive and caring hosts, June and David. Admittedly the approach road is steep and the drive even steeper but do not let this put you off. Pause at the bottom of the drive to let the remotely controlled gate to open (first time honk and June or David will open the gate) and then just select first gear and take it easy! Your reward is just too beautiful to miss! We stayed in 'Harbour Lights', for a week - a two bedroom unit with everything you need for easy self catering, very well equipped and nicely furnished and decorated. Hout Bay is conveniently located for all the Cape Town area attractions and allows for an easy day trip to Stellenbosch, Franschhoek and the wine country.

Don't ever trust these people. We paid our deposit for our stay in CASH and on leaving we asked for our cash back as had no breakages etc. He then refused to give us cash & said he'd transfer the money into our acc, when we got the money FIVE days later, it was short by half so we called Dave and he gave us a rubbish excuse that we'd stained a bedcover that WE HADN'T EVEN USED. Daylight robbery-so disappointing

We stayed in Harbour Lights. The view is absolutely incredible!! We were blessed with beautiful weather and had the most stunning sunsets and sunrises! Quiet possibly the highest point in Hout bay as looked over the entire harbour and Hout Bay.
The driveway is steep but its doable! Attack it in first gear and its fine. The drive way is worth the views.
We had a fantastic stay. Very private and I found the actually accomodation very comfortable.
Absolutely stunning!

My husband and I, together with our mothers stayed in June and Dave’s apartment for 5 nights early January 2012. (Top floor apartment, with wrap around balcony 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms)
Pros
• Gorgeous views over Hout Bay – view to be enjoyed from large balcony, main bedroom, lounge and shower room
• Nice touches – fresh flowers, bottle of wine in the fridge on arrival, clean and inviting apartment
• Serviced Monday – Friday

Cons
• Not enough hot water for 4 people to bath/shower if needing to do so within a few hours
• Not suitable for small children
• Steep road and even steeper driveway – so daunting that we decided to leave the car at the bottom of the hill and walk up (OK for my husband and I but far from ideal for our mothers)
• No wardrobes in bedrooms but rather a small almost walk in wardrobe (perfect for a couple but not so great for a party of 4 adults)
• Poor customer service – if nothing goes wrong while you are there you should be fine however BEWARE….( we used the washing machine, our clothes came out with horrible brown marks everywhere. Reported this to Dave and showed him how the drum was left filthy. He proceeded to say ‘well this has never happened before’ and left it at that. It felt like an effort when we asked him if he minded to put our stuff in his washer to try and get rid of the marks and we feared using ours again and did not want our stuff to be stained. We later cleaned the machine and put a towel in it to ensure that it was safe to use. Returned home to dry clean clothes with minimal damage and towel clean and hung. Tried to do another load but machine did not work, this could not be fixed because it was the weekend. Again no offer to use his machine, even when I asked where the nearest place was that could deal with it as we were leaving that
Monday for a safari. ON CHECKOUT DAVE KEPT OUR BREAKAGAGE DEPOSIT SAYING THAT WE BROKE THE MACHINE AS EVEYONE KNOWS THAT YOU ARE NOT ALLOWED TO PUT ONLY ONE TOWEL IN A WASHING MACHINE. WHEN WE TRIED TO REASON WITH HIM HE WAS EXEMELY UNPROFESSIONAL AND RUDE, EVENTUALLY ALMOST TOSSING OUR BREAKAGE DEPOSIT AT US.

Once we had managed to drive up the steep road and the even steeper driveway up to the cottage we were rewarded with what must be the most stunning view over Hout Bay. Our flat had two bedrooms, two bathrooms, a big lounge with kitchen including washing machine and dining area, plus a nice balcony. The whole flat was clean and in a good condition. The hosts were very friendly and helpful. The only drawback was that the balcony isn't safe enough for young children. All in all we were really happy and enjoyed our stay at the cottage very much.

Although we expected separate cottages, we soon settled into our 2 bed-roomed self catering " apartment" which was part of the main house. Very secure with own alarm control and the most beautiful views of the bay and beyond from the lounge, balcony and bedroom. ( see photos) We only needed one bedroom but were offered this one as the others were booked. Everything was just lovely when we arrived - flowers on the table, wine and welcome pack in the fridge and clear instructions how everything worked. Maps and books available so we could plan our five day stay. Hout Bay is very convenient to most of the Cape Town attractions. Be sure to check out the Cape Town Trip Advisor Forums as they were a great help to us when we were planning. A small shopping centre with supermarket made getting breakfast supplies etc easy. Several very good restaurants for eat-in and take-away. The food and service at the Chapman Peak Hotel were excellent. Owners of Bayview Mountain Cottages, June and Dave, couldn't have been more helpful. Also very efficient with responses to our emails, and accepting our booking - giving excellent instructions on how to get to them, during the booking period. A word of warning - we had a standard size hire car and only just made it up the mountain road - a very small compact may struggle. And their address didn't show in our GPS - we suggest that you get to the Tourist bureau and ring and ask Dave to come and lead the way. I struggled with the free wireless connection on my laptop - fast broadband doesn't seem to really exist in Hout Bay ...but good enough for emails. We were very pleased with our choice of accommodation and would certainly recommend it!
