Description: Between 1835 and 1849 the Kronendal Farm was owned by Sir William Josias Cloete. Legend has it that the homestead is haunted by his daughter Elsa Cloete who died of a broken heart after being forbidden to marry her soldier lover. Kitima still sets and serves a table for Elsa with samples from the menu to appease Elsa's spirit. Welcome to Kitima restaurant where oriental elegance and hospitality meet the unpretentious grace and charm of Africa. Our authentic Thai and Asian Fusion cuisine, prepared by our Thai chefs will carry you to a world of exotic spices, perfumes and all that's precious and exotic. Various dining option are available from our private lover's room seating 2-6 persons, our VIP room seating up to 12 persons, our Temple and Bangkok rooms as well as the Raya lounge for cocktails, drinks, snacks or even dinner to share. Kitima exudes all the splendour of a traditional Cape Dutch homestead with yellowwood ceilings, wooden floors combined with modern Asian artefacts and cuisine. Our cocktail list is extensive and features a number of award winners that are both stunning in taste and appeal. The restaurant has the addition of the garden and the Raya Terrace which are unique covered areas that are available, however these are weather permitting. We invite you to have a taste of true Thai cuisine in a traditional and modernised South African homestead.

“Great Thai Food”
Reviewed September 9, 2013

We go to Kitima all the time and it's always very consistent. The quality of food is always very good, nice fresh herbs, lots of flavours. Service is always really good. You can either have Thai food or Sushi. The highlight of Kitima is their Sunday Buffet where you can eat as much as you like and you have the opportunity of trying virtually all the delicacies of this restaurant. The bar is also very nice if you want to have a drink after dinner. An absolute must if you come to Cape Town.

Wow what a selection of high quality food.
If Oriental food is your thing then you would find it hard to beat the selection and quality of this restaurant in Cape Town.
Try reserve a private room and bring your kids.

“The Ghosts of Kronendal”
Reviewed August 28, 2013

Kitima has some of the best-trained waiters in Cape Town's restaurant industry. Attentive, friendly and knowledgeable.

I am not a huge fan of Thai food and in this regard the menu is limited however my family assures me the food is excellent and I always enjoy the fresh sushi, interesting cocktails and decadent desserts.

The bar scene is quite popular with the middle aged single crowd. The restaurant is quite fancy, so do dress up a little!

The main reason to visit this restaurant though is the exquisite decor and the beautiful old building, which has stood in Hout Bay since the 1800's. You will notice when you come in the entrance that there is a table set for two, with plates of food already set down.

This is a tradition that has been maintained no matter which restaurant occupied the space, since as long as I can remember. The table is set for Elsa, the daughter of the Dutch general who built the home, and her lover, a British soldier. Their love was forbidden and the only contact they had was through the window. Elsa would stand in the top floor window, under the gable, and wave at the soldier who would stand across the street in the oak line avenue that is still there today. Eventually, he hanged himself from one of these trees and Elsa died of broken heart.
