Dined twice at Reuben's during our recent stay. We like the informal Wine Bar atmosphere and the staff are friendly.
The first evening it was moderately busy and we were seated in the main restaurant. My breast of duck was delicious and the evening was relaxed and enjoyable. So much so that we arranged to come for another meal three nights later.
On this occasion, the restaurant was extremely busy with a number of large groups dining. We were relocated to another area of the restaurant to accommodate them and, not surprisingly, the service was extremely slow.
On this occasion, we noticed how hot the restaurant was because there have no air conditioning. Presumably this was aggravated by the large number of diners crammed into a confined space on a warm summer's evening.
All in all then, a mixed review. The staff did their best to make us feel welcome on both occasions but the diining experience was very different on these two evenings set just a few days apart.

Everyone told us that we had to dine in Reubens and so we did. The sommellier Ryan is a delightful chap and gave some great advice about wines to accompany our courses and the food was in the main very good. I was just not quite the dining experience that we had been given to expect. HHowever on the whole it was a good evening and the food was fine if a little more pricey than elsewhere.

Having enjoyed eating in Reuben's in Cape Town we were desolated by the Franschhoek experience. Nothing wrong with the food but our waitress was authoritarian old school! Some people may like to be pushed around - for me it brought back the trauma with my first wife. Neither were happy experiences but, on a positive note, Reuben's cost a whole lot less!

Enjoyed dinner at the restaurant. I had a calamari starter that was great and an excellent pork belly for mains. Food was very tasty and well prepared. Service was good. Only draw back was the ambiance which was a bit noisy and minimalistic for our taste.

Last year we visited Franschhoek and Ruebens was a massive highlight. In fact we went on the first and last night of our trip! The mussels were amazing. This year it was our first stop for dinner. And we were a little disappointed. The menu wasn't quite as appealing - no mussels (they were on the 'sample' menu outside the restaurant). We had great oysters and fizz to start. And we had an interesting hot and sour gazpacho style soup. But our mains were a bit average. I read another review implying the standards seem to have dropped. Maybe this is true :( ..... Anyway no 'food envy' from either of us at this meal.
