Lovely food, and wonderful ambiance. Bring bug spray though! Nothing harmful is biting (they were like midges) and by the next day the bites were gone, but it was a nuisance while we were sitting there.

Booked at Reubens for our anniversary, mentioned it specifically, but nobody else mentioned it or acknowledged it when we arrived at Reubens. And we were seated next to a family with young kids - OMG! I am paying for a baby-sitter to have a romantic meal with hubbie and I am sitting next to a bunch of kids that should not be visiting a 5-star restaurant in any case!
Luckily we were moved to another table and we had the most lovely food, but really disinterested service from the waitresses! We battled to get their attention, order drinks, ask questions about the food etc.
But then there was Ryan, the sommelier, who was put in our path to make our day! Thank you, Ryan for the wine journey and the special attention! But Reuben, you should consider relooking at your child-policy and maybe have a separate section for families?!? And maybe remember that people come to a restaurant such as yours for the full experience! Good food, great service and no bored brats complaining why you don't have fish fingers and chips!
Would we come again with all the other great fooddie options in Franschhoek? I unfortunately doubt it altough I love Reubens food and style, but the atmosphere was too much 'family-restaurant' rather then fine-dining.

We had to wait from 13h00 until 14h45 before our lunch was served. Drinks were served propmtly. Orders were taken 25minutes after arrival, bread served after 45 minutes and startes after 50 minutes. some of us did not eat starters and were very hungry by 14h00.
The asperagus starter, Kingklip and Burgers were tasty. the duck in the warm salad was over cooked.

Reubens restaurant&bar has an awesome setting&atmosphere. 3 courses recommended. The menu apparently changes every so often but there was a spicy soup with coconut ice cream and pieces of pineapple in it- DELICIOUS! The main I had was sole fish- perfectly cooked and spiced to perfection. The highlight of the meal was definitely dessert! A trio of south african favourites, lemmington, milk tart & koeksistes with ice cream. Each one individually made with a sophisticated edge to it. Fantastic!

Many better places in Franshoek. This was the worst.
So dull that we don't even remember what we ate. Tastless ambiance as well.
The bill was ridiculous. But the staff is so dilly that we forgot to pay...
