“Truly Something Special”
Reviewed August 21, 2014

My fiancé and I had dinner here on Wednesday 6th. It is truly something special, listening to how things are foraged, the understanding of the local surroundings and seasons is inspiring. We had the game terrine and Jerusalem artichoke soup to start. The soup was lovely and velvety smooth with succulent duck. The terrine was beautifully seasoned and well paired with the citrus purée. Mains were the short rib and yellow-tail. Again, seasoning and execution was spot on. Most tender and succulent beef I have had in a long time. Yellow-tail was super fresh and beautifully cooked. Desserts too were formidable…portion sizes are generous and not break the bank expensive. We wish Chris all the best and most certainly will be back next time we are in Cape Town.

“MUST MUST MUST”
Reviewed August 20, 2014

Best EVERYTHING, food is out of this world yet you feel the LOVE coming from the kitchen.
I can go on and on about the food, which is so far one of the best i have had in the western cape, but also want to mention service which is by far the best i have experienced after 4 years in the region.

“very good food”
Reviewed August 17, 2014

As we are spoilt in our area with great restaurants, we were invited to something new in Franschhoek. The first impression was not great, close to the street etc, but as our host told us just to wait and see, we got the message.

The food is really great, for us just the right portions and a joy for the taste pallets. We were guided in the wine s as we had the local wine guy with us and the wine list is a joy as well. All in all very good value for money.

We give this restaurant and its owner/chefcook a big 5 and we hope he will keep up the quality as we will be back with friends.

“A gem in Franschoek!”
Reviewed August 11, 2014

We had lunch at Foliage this Saturday and what a fantastic experience it was. I think the chef Chris is an artist. He creates the most beautiful, different and exquisite food. We had 2 starters and shared the pork shoulder. All very tasty, cant wait to go back and sample some more dishes. Also had an excellent chenin from the Olifants region! He has only been open for a month but i wish him all the success in the world.

“Chris Erasmus at his best”
Reviewed August 2, 2014

I have to start 2 weeks earlier, when we had sunday lunch at La Motte, one of my favourite eateries in the winelands, but we were quite disappointed. When I asked the waiter, I learned that there is a different chef, and Chris Erasmus opened up a new place.
So, the next sunday we headed out to Franschhoek to visit his new Restaurant Foliage.
It is located on the main street, but already a bit out of the really busy center.
The welcome was warm and the service was very attentive and friendly. The food was exceptional. I had slow roasted pork shoulder, which was so tender, it melted in my mouth and it was packed with flavours. My wife had a pork and impala curry, which was terrific. All the other course were outstanding as well and the wine list is good and displays all the great Western Cape wines, the open red was a wonderful cabernet from Reyneke. We will be back for sure, since it was one of the best food i had in a while.
As mentioned, the service was extremely friendly and the wife of Chris, who runs also the gallery next door, supervises it, so there are no hiccups. The intimacy shows in such small gestures as she took our baby and cuddled it while we had our starter.
Though the place is just open for 4 weeks, it was already packed, so make sure you book up front.
