We had a superb wine tasting which allowed us to sample their younger wines. But we managed to buy some excellent vintages, especially their Millennium 1994, 1997 and 1998 as well as a 2002 Shiraz.
Lunch was in the main building with a beautifully decorated restaurant and a great outdoor sitting. We started with a suckling pig terrine followed by a wonderful rib eye served with French Fries sprinkled with Shiraz salt(the rock salt is mixed with chopped dry shiraz skin).
Do not miss their small souvenir shop while exiting the property.

Wonderful wine tasting, very informative in lovely surroundings. Unfortunately food was unavailable on Monday but we didn't mind too much as the customer service was amazing.

We arrived at the La Motte without a lunch reservation and were very politely welcomed in. Despite being pretty much full we were given a great table and had a lovely light lunch. The staff were excellent.

The wine tasting is OK but La Motte is a huge operation and so it's not the 'intimate and personal' experience we preferred at the smaller vineyards. Hardly La Motte's fault it's such a success! Just wasn't one of our favourite tastings. For something large but still personal, try Anthony Rupert. Or at the small end of the spectrum; Lynx.

This vineyard is nestled in the beautiful Fransschhoek (French corner) valley and worth a visit when touring wine country in South Africa. The entire property including the vineyard, buildings and landscaping is lovely. Wine tasting for our group of nine was offered in a beautiful building at a very nicely appointed table. The staff were professional, helpful and friendly. To be honest, everything at this winery was perfect except the wine. We sampled eight different wines, ranging from Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, a Cabernet and a Shiraz. This was a beautiful winery in an idyllic setting, however the wine does not compete with the setting.

We really liked the place itself and liked the fact that we were allowed to have a look round the cellar but the wine was disappointing.
