“Auberge La Dauphine”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 20, 2013

We stayed at Auberge La Dauphine on the night of the 10th August 2013 after a week on the Whale Trail.
My request for a reservation received a prompt and friendly response. We also had to re-schedule our check-in time as the drive from De Hoop Nature Reserve was a lot longer than anticipated. Our request was graciously handled.
On arrival, we were welcomed by a bubbly Ronel who checked us in and offered to make a dinner reservation and order us a taxi.
I found our room, Pinotage, extremely comfortable with views that extended to the snow-capped mountains in the distance. The bed was large and a welcome bit of luxury after roughing it on bunk beds on the Whale Trail. The bathroom was more than adequate despite the somewhat cramped shower.
Breakfast the next morning was prepared and served by friendly staff in a buzzing communal room. Breakfast was generous. I find Auberge La Dauphine's check-out time of 11:00 also quite generous as it meant that I could enjoy a leisurely breakfast, shower and re-pack without feeling rushed.
The cherry on top was that the price was really exceptional value for money, considering that this is a relatively small owner-run business. I would certainly recommend this venue for short stays.

Good communication prior to our stay really made us feel valued and welcome. The guest house is in a stunning location with fantastic views whichever way you look. The grounds around the property are spacious and tidy and it's very tranquil around the dam. Ronel was very friendly and welcoming and extremely efficient. She made us feel at home and helped us with booking a wonderful wine tour with an exceptional local guide, Denver, and lunch. We stayed in Acorn Cottage which is a well equipped 2 bedroom property with its own patio area (with braai), living area, and 2 bathrooms. The cottage was pleasantly furnished and neat and tidy. The wood fire made it feel particularly cosy. All the staff were friendly, polite and well trained and the breakfast consisted of a number of choices and was well presented. Dan, Anne and the staff really make an effort to make us feel comfortable and welcome and their local knowledge was an added extra. We were given excellent restaurant recommendations. Nothing was too much and it made our stay in this friendly, inviting little town memorable.

Room Tip: There are many different room options available so be sure to check these before booking.

The rooms and cottages are beautifully finished and the views of the mountains around are spectacular. Its a beautifully designed place, private and tranquil. There is a little spot by a dam to sit and enjoy a glass of wine and watch the sunset if you are there in the early evening. The beds are very comforable and lots of hot water in the shower and bath - which mattered a lot as we visited in 'winter' time. Plus a great breakfast to set you up for the day. Would definitely stay here again!

Although we were only here for 1 night we felt very welcomed and very comfortable. We had just flown from the US via London for over 40 hours of travel time. The staff recommended an outstanding local restaurant and wine tasting-great start to our vacation. We stayed in a 2 bedroom self catering cottage and found it charming. Breakfast was cooked to order and excellent as well. Staff was friendly, helpful and made us feel very welcomed. Our only disappointed was we could not stay longer.

Room Tip: Great place to stay in Franschhoek.

I spent a few days in one of the self catering cottages with my family back in April 2011, and can honestly say that this was one of my favourite travel experiences ever. The staff and owners were more that friendly and helpful, ensuring that our stay was as comfortable and pleasant as possible, and went the extra mile to help make it a trip to remember. I would certainly recommend this place to any and everyone, and as well as the fabulous staff, it is one of the most beautiful scenic areas I've ever seen ! There are many facilities to cater for all ages (tennis courts; animals for the kids to enjoy etc) and I certainly hope to be back again one day. A massive thank you to the owners, Anne and Dan : ) (Graham Rowe, N Ireland)

I stayed at Auberge La Dauphine in January for a friend's wedding in a nearby vineyard. This part of the country is absolutely stunning and this B&B was a recommendation from a friend that surpassed all expectations (& they were already very high). Beautiful surroundings, spacious rooms & very comfortable beds, lovely swimming pools with plenty of outdoor space & great breakfasts! The staff were brilliant too!

Stayed here for 3 nights in February whilst in Cape Town for a friend's wedding. After 2 weeks in South Africa, having stayed in some much more expensive places, this place was definitely my favourite. Lovely accommodation, pleasant grounds in the heart of the vineyards, friendly staff and great breakfasts! Hope to return some day!
